Purchased songs Question
Ive been around for awile, but this has been bothering me, so Im going to go ahead and ask if its a bug or not. Are purchased songs public songs and count toward level rank? I thought they did, but today I bought Angels Stay On This Ground and made 2 passes through it. Going from no rank to rank like 160 + I thought I would see a minor drop in my rank, however, I didnt drop at all. This is the 2nd time this is happened, and Im just wondering, do they count? Is it delayed? Is it a bug? Did it just not count enough to drop my rank even 1 spot?
Thank you for your time.

Re: Purchased songs Question
Did you check your level stats first?
and keep in mind that not many people have all these "purchased" songs, so the rank jump may have been small... another thing to keep in mind is that there are a LOT of songs... So you can't always expect a single song to change your rank. |

Re: Purchased songs Question
Heh yes I checked my lvl rank first. Not trying to be snide, but I know how the game works.
As for the rest of your response, thats what I was wondering. I would have thought that playing through an unplayed public song would have dropped my lvlrank at least like 1 spot, but it seems it didnt. If thats the case, then thank you for taking the time to answer.

Re: Purchased songs Question
As a completely unplayed song, my average rank on that song is 790, you improved yours to 164. Given the volume of songs you have between those ranks, I'd expect a rank improvement of no more than 0.2

Re: Purchased songs Question
Perfect example of how more plays around you adversely affects your rank. If you were to play an older file, one with only blue arrows, the unplayed average rank would be 5 figures. Seeing as how it hasn't been played at all, there's no averages to really come up with, so it doesn't have a great effect on you.

Re: Purchased songs Question
Just another way that the game emphasizes AAAs so highly. I've had songs where a BF was rank over 3000. You are pretty much -forced- to AAA the old easy songs to have any kind of good average rank, which is one of the things that annoys the skilled players who don't want to have to screw around with the 1-5 songs as all (especially Synth Bluenote ones)
But yes, the primary artifact of that system is that mediocre players like me get a big rank boost just from having new songs come out without playing them, and skilled players have to constantly keep on top of new songs to avoid tanking their ranking. |

Re: Purchased songs Question
I'd like to take the time to say thank you to everyone who responded to this thread. It gave me better perspective on how avg. rank works and my misconceptions about it. I guess I REALLY need to try to start AAA lower lvl songs ( I play fairlly well but AAA's seem to elude me, /sigh ) in order to reach my goal of less then 1000 avg rank.
Once again, thank you for your time.
