Default Senate Bill 978: Banning the streaming of copyrighted material

Introduced on May 11th, 2011, S.978 would make streaming copyrighted material (such as music, movies, and video games) illegal. If this bill were to be passed, and someone was found guilty of this crime, they would face 5 years in jail and a fine of anywhere between $2500 and $5000.

Now your first thought may be "What will happen to youtube and users of said site?" If anyone has any videos with ANY form of copyrighted material in them (this includes music in the background from a radio someone had on), this would be considered a felony. Not only would the users be in trouble, but youtube could also be in trouble for having the videos on their site.

Like I mentioned above, video games are under the category of copyrighted material, which means videos and sites with video games as their central theme, or even if a little bit of video game material is shown, this would be considered illegal. That means ALL Let's Players would be considered a felon. And all those big video game sites (like IGN) or video game show-casers (like Machinima) would also be considered illegal.

As I was typing this all up, it occurred to me that this site could also be in trouble if that bill is passed, because there is a lot of music on this site, and I don't know how much of it is copyrighted, but if there are copyrighted songs on here, this site is also in trouble. And just like how youtube could be in trouble for the copyrighted videos, FFR could be in trouble in the exact same way for having people show their videos of video games (I cannot tell you how many CoD videos I've seen on this site).

If you would like to see where I've gotten my information (besides the last paragraph), it is in the following links:

If you want to keep youtube alive with gamers and music, and you want to be able to post (almost) whatever you want without fear of being sued by big corporations, e-mail your senator and tell them to oppose this bill.

Well, I wasn't expecting this sort of thing to be posted on Chit-Chat. I was looking on Critical Thinking to see if anyone posted this already. But seeing as someone already has, get a mod to lock this.

I was thinking of moving the old thread in Chit Chat here anyways. Might as well just keep it there. This forum doesn't get enough viewership anyways.
