What you call metal on FFR
Hey,
I am in general, a very content FFR user, thanks alot for having this website! However, I do have one pet peeve. As a metalhead, I am a little annoyed by your lack of correctness in the specific genre of metal certain bands are. Case in point: I clicked on random on the song list (great feature btw). A song by Hatebreed came up. They were listed as "Hardcore Metal". There is no such thing. They are Metalcore. Freedom Call are Power Metal, not "Epic Metal". Empyreon are Power/Experimental Metal. Just a couple of examples. I would be happy to help you by giving my suggestions as to what genres specific songs are if you would like. I understand there might be database problems if you were to change the songs now, but if you could please observe the proper namings of genres, I would appreciate it. ~Setsanto |

Re: What you call metal on FFR
A zillion people all have this complaint. A zillion people all have different expectations of what each band should be labeled
If it gives you any solace, many Techno/Trance songs are mislabeled with some really weird stuff, too. I'm not sure if the admins are willing to change them, but as far as I know they CAN be changed without impacting any other data, it's just a pain in the ass for the admins.

Re: What you call metal on FFR
I think that though it's impossible to please everyone, I think that many bands could be made more correctly classified, especially with the help of globally recognized websites such as Metal Archives and Metal Storm. The information on these two websites is used worldwide for the classification and historical records of bands whether they are playing out of a garage or have 100,000 people at every concert. I know that it is hard on the admins, hence I am offering my help. I'm sure a similar system could be created for Techno, Rock, Jazz and any other genre on FFR.

My biggest problem is that Children of Bodom are labeled as hard rock.

Re: What you call metal on FFR
What difference does it make if the bands are incorrectly labeled? Does it change their music? Does it change who the band is? No. It's just a demonstration by the Administration that they don't know much about music genres. Just leave it be.

Re: What you call metal on FFR
i'm not a music expert... as such, i rely on the aid of others for doing the style of music listed. we try to be close and accurate... but clearly that won't ever be the case. different people have different opinions on how to classify certain songs.
bmah handles all of the styles for the electronic music. drugstore cowboy does the majority of the work for the "rock" songs, which would include the rock, metal, alternative, emo, screamo, hardcore, etc etc... although i think bmah winds up doing some of those as well. also, it is doable to change the styles. just changing a lot of them at one time is a pain in the ass.
