Well realistically there's a real simple solution to this, no more new files for official tournaments. Just use what's in game. I personally hate that idea but it would make it fair to everyone.

Actually I was reminded of it when Carlos posted because before this one started he asked if it were really necessary to have new files for every tournament.

The solution is to simply put have more batches, make opportunities available to everyone, and to post pone the tourney until the file count is met.

You're just jumping to that solution because you refuse to even consider for a moment another. Calm down, take a step back, and put some thought into it.

Also, I cannot take your challenge. It's not fair to the TB members to use the engine for my own means. I'm not that kind of person. I don't want to be that way. I won't be that way. I only respond to that challenge, because it's forced. I'd like to disregard it as nonsense though, which it is to me.

But I don't think I can honestly argue my point with you all. I feel you're not taking it seriously or thinking about it in more ways than your own. It's 1 VS 100 or so here, and the odds of getting the victory, or my point across, is narrow. (1 VS 100 is not meant to be taken literally.)

I still think we should hold more batches and accept less files per batch. Only the best files get accepted; and with less time between batches there's more of an incentive for people to improve their submitted files until they are amazing (and for people to keep stepping new stuff for FFR!). Sure, maybe it's more work for judges. But each batch *would* be smaller, and given how many people wait till the last few days to look at the files it doesn't seem like making time is that big of a problem. If it is, though, you can decrease the work by having one person go through first and see which files are obvious accepts/rejects.

The issue that always comes up in that type of situation is what's really considered an "amazing file." Most people have different views on what's good and enjoyable and what's not. I mean yeah there are some obvious things that we all know but where do we get the criteria for being amazing or perfect? We've all seen instances where one judge will rate a file extremely high and another extremely low.

There are files that almost everyone agrees is a good file. Its not hard yo go through a batch prior to judging and pick out the terrible ones that had no chance to begin with

Bullshit. If the tournament needs files of a specific difficulty, it would be much quicker to get one of the judges to make a file. Those judges are judges because they know how to make a good file, and they can make one quickly.

If FFR held a batch in the middle of a tournament to get a file, that wouldn't go over well at all. We'd have a bunch of people sending in shitty files, files that aren't hard enough/too hard, and it'd have to go through the judging process, ultimately postponing the tournament. And we all know how mad people can get over stupid shit (ie look at you and middie).

Thank you for reiterating what I was earlier, because it just goes to show that we're (Kayla/I) obviously not the only ones thinking this way. It's not only the most logical solution, but also the fastest and best solution overall.

No matter what you say, you're wrong. NO file should be exempt from a batch no matter what the damn circumstance is. Maybe next time, you'll have extra files for circumstances like this. That's about all there is to say.

in recent history this has never happened lol. Judges are encouraged to judge with artists being anonymous during the whole process. I've rejected countless bmah files and I didn't look at who made the files everytime I judged them. This "special priviledges" you speak of sounds like someone being mad their file didn't make it in because others more known did.

Perhaps blind judging should happen? Like... somehow when files are distributed to judges, the names are taken off the files completely, and only the main person in charge of the files knows who stepped what?

Granted... some judges will know who stepped what file due to people saying what they will step or they can tell from how they step... but perhaps that will eliminate ANY favoritism?



On a side note:

If this exists already, please let me know. I'm just unsure about this.

Can there / Is there a list of people who can be tutors on how to step? Because I've been TRYING to step for half a year now, and can only really rely on batch notes, and the advice from people playing it.... but I could use some what to do / what not to do's I guess?

(Granted... every file is different and its really an art form... I dunno... do you know what I'm getting at?) I guess I just wanna do a damn file correctly, and not sure how to ensure I do well :P
