First official tournament with R3 Air
I think it has helped allow some players to play the game without as many issues, so more competition?

Re: First official tournament with R3 Air
Even with Air I still struggle to find a good offset to feel like its consistently on sync. I keep bouncing between like 0.30 and 0.55 for offset because nothing feels right. It does feel much more smooth in terms of tearing than R3 ever did. It's really the reason I struggle to play the game for score any more, I usually find myself playing a few songs a week just for filler.
-inb4 "your bad" reply, I just closed out my first 16 PFC in DDR 3 weeks ago so it's not me.

Re: First official tournament with R3 Air
air runs way worse than using projector for me. the only upside is the framerate is less choppy but who cares when its practically disregarding my input

this might be known information for some, but anyone who has gone from projector/browser with a frame rate above 60 should try playing the game at or just a touch below 60 with AIR to see if input is better.

Re: First official tournament with R3 Air
I haven't been very successful using the air player but I think new people will probably enjoy it for the high quality looks and smoothness.
The input delay is pretty horrible though. When I say input delay I'm not talking about lag or choppiness.. I'm talking about how long it actually takes the game to recognize your key strokes. Like in fp9, I use around 0 to 0.5 judge but with air, I have to use at least -0.2 or i'll constantly drop late goods. idk might just be my cpu but fp9 has by far the fastest key input recognition even tho its choppy and old... and missing features like save screenshot and playing on rates. @Sanjixcon I've actually noticed something similar. Try setting your frame rate as Halogen suggested to ~55 and switch off of the default ffr noteskin. For whatever reason there is a input/output delay with the default noteskin for me. i.e. (I hit a quad before a song starts and watch the receptors light up at different times) I switched to the delta skin and the problem went away. Not sure if this is a known bug, but I can confirm that the default skin does this on my machine. Last edited by Zman100; 04-24-2018 at 07:38 AM.. |

Re: First official tournament with R3 Air
That's funny about the default noteskin. It runs fine with default for me (that's what I usually use), but I can't use custom or else the game starts to straight up drop inputs everywhere and I finish songs with like 2-0-20-0 (this is an actual score I got once).
Can vouch for 55 framerate though, as soon as I went from 60 to 55 my scores got so much better and I magically wasn't splitting jumps anymore

Re: First official tournament with R3 Air
The only reason I use air is to take screenshots, and even then I could just use fp10 instead of 9. Offset is a gigantic issue for me. Also it feels like the position of the arrow where perfects and amazings register are different. I play things generally early on fp9 and on air I have to play much later.

55 framerate: I think Air is currently better for rates, but I can't beat my FP scores with Air on 1.0 rate. Last edited by Hakulyte; 04-24-2018 at 06:29 PM.. |

Re: First official tournament with R3 Air
@Hakulyte
So is it fair to assume adjusting frame rate affects the timing windows of the game? In which case why is 30fps seemingly no different than 55fps accuracy wise. (Obviously 30 fps is choppy as hell visually) Also any comment on why note skin would affect game play? |

Note skin is just a matter of how you visually interpret what you see. Color theory (red: 4th, blue: 8th, yellow: 16th etc.) has been useful to learn the game, but that mostly comes to preferences for optimal play. It could affect you if you have some eye limitations too. You may want to swap certain colors. I doubt custom note skins will change much outside of personal preferences with what you see. (e.g: someone is used to a certain stepmania note skin that's not on FFR). Sometimes it's just the little something to keep you from falling into automatisms/mindblocks. |

Re: First official tournament with R3 Air
I run fp9 at 144fps on my 144hz monitor and its silky smooth until I start playing 90s and up.

Re: First official tournament with R3 Air
60fps starts reaching the ms time a single frame takes to render for the game, Flash prioritizes rendering over other things like keyboard events, which can only happen between frames. As such, flash will delay keyboard events till it has time to actually handle them, sometimes up to 4-5 frames later or dropping it completely if it doesn't handle it soon enough. 55fps is around the point where it gives the game ample time to handle keyboard events normally within the next frame.

Any ideas on the note skin issue? I honestly figured it was my personal machine until Pizza said he had issues with different note skins other than the default. (I'm the exact opposite) |
