This Is getting Bad.
More and more recently while on FFR, I keep getting my window changed. To something bad. A site called (please don't go to the site I mention. It tries downloading stuff to your computer. Its not cool) http://online.antivirusscan1.info keeps opening in my FFR window. believe me. I don't have a virus. I have 4 anti virus programs, and I clear cache/history etc. all the time. I do Disk Cleanups DAILY. It's not because of a virus. But the site is a virus site. Tried downloading a weird binary exe file to my destktop. This opens every time I go to my PM inbox. Only on FFR. Nowhere else.
Is it JUST me? Is ANYONE else getting linked to sites like this? *BTW the fourth time I got linked there Firefox spazzed as did TrendMicro, Norton, and MalwareBytes (antivirus programs I have) about how bad the site is and how I should never go there again. Its pretty bad. |

Re: This Is getting Bad.
The best thing you can do is just beef up your AV software. I'm currently using Kaspersky AV 2009, and it's doing a good job, any site that has harmful content, it will tell you in the bottom right hand corner. For example, when I was going to torrentbay sites for torrents, my computer would get attacked, but nothing would happen because Kaspersky's defense is strong.
It's a 30 day trial, so you can use it, but be warned, if you plan on using it, you will have to move your other anti-virus software to a different area, otherwise you will be forced to un-install it. I have the full version (purchased, good luck cracking it), and it's done a great job. EDIT: Just clicked the link--yeah, Kaspersky spazzed out on me. (Yeah, I have that much trust in my AV. ) |

Re: This Is getting Bad.
As long as it isn't just me. I'd have to freak out. And TCHalogen-that's a LOT of trust you put there. I specifically said don't because it installs odd binaries to your computer. Wow. I might give it a try, but like I said, I've got 4 antivirus, and a few other tricks for getting rid of bad things.

But yeah, this needs to be fixed, especially with the amount of people we get coming over here. |

This sounds serious. Look I know adblock isn't supposed to be promoted but that sounds like the best idea right now. Adblock has been blocking me from getting redirected there.

Re: This Is getting Bad.
I've surfed this site using IE6 and FX3 and I get nothing.
How often does this happen? Either it just hasn't happened to me yet, or I just don't have this problem.

Re: This Is getting Bad.
Can someone do a screen capture of this? I have not seen this but I will discontinue business with the advertiser if I can narrow down which company it is coming from.
Did you guys see this the other week when there were no ads? Or did it just start up this week? Cheers, Synthlight |

Re: This Is getting Bad.
It's just recently started happening. I didn't get re-directed to the site, but it does have some harmful content, because I clicked on the link that was given. Give me a second, I'll see if I can get it to trigger again.
EDIT: I can't get a redirect from that link anymore. However, I found out more about what Numi is talking about from this link: http://online.antivirusscan1.info/22...Q3OWl3MUFORw== [DO NOT CLICK] Here's a screenie: Clicking on any part of the warning box triggers a response through the anti-virus. I looked it up on google, and got the same exact screenie as what's been reported. Also, note how the root of the site is nearly the same as the one reported. I'm not sure exactly what ad triggers it, because most of the time it just goes to the kind of site you see where the domain is gone. Last edited by TC_Halogen; 03-18-2009 at 10:23 PM.. |

Re: This Is getting Bad.
wow these ads are hitting you guys pretty hard
Either the site doesnt like you, or you never heard of add ons. Heck I even browse as a normal member with no surfing protection to try and experience these ad attacks. Still nothing.

Re: This Is getting Bad.
I am either disabling ads again tonight or stripping it down to a single ad company. Either way, it will stop tonight.

Re: This Is getting Bad.
I wasn't getting attacked in particular, but I figured I'd test things out to see how they were. You get pretty badly bombarded without any sort of adware/AV protection.

The thing is I have AVG, it didn't do a thing to stop the popups though.

Re: This Is getting Bad.
I have to stress that if you want to contribute to FFR, the last thing I would suggest is an adblock plugin. Ads and subbies are the only way we can afford to keep up with our bills.
I have removed all but 1 ad block (left of game) and replaced all of them with a single test for a 24 hour period. Please clear cache and all that and please let me know if you continue to have problems. I will remove the rogue ads, you have my word. Cheers, Synthlight |

Re: This Is getting Bad.
Kaspersky Internet Security is doing a good job--but it could be that since I'm a subby, I'm not getting attacked at all. Maybe I should log onto one of my non-sub accounts and see what happens?

Re: This Is getting Bad.
Are the ones that are supposed to show you an ad before navigating to a new page (the ones that cover your screen and ask you if you want to skip the ad) supposed to be removed too?
EDIT: A doublepost over two accounts, oops. |

Re: This Is getting Bad.
I'm a subbie so unfortunately, I can't help much with this situation as I'm not seeing what's happening. What I do know is that you can try and report this website to the Federal Trade Commission. Their website is http://www.ftc.gov/ and you can report the website at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/
