Zaghurim wrote the ending solo for me <3 I'll probably make it louder/an octave higher in final recording for my upcoming EP.

Re: Afro Beam feat. Stone McKnuckle
So good except I think the actual recording sounds a bit rough or is it the mastering, whatever it is it seems quite a static-y and compressed, overall. (quiter mix / master would bring out the dynamics much more which would benefit the song as a whole imo)
From a composition-view thought this is amazing wowowow and yeah like you said the solo needs better mixing, its buried in the mix. Last edited by Coolboyrulez0; 11-7-2012 at 03:14 PM.. |

Re: Afro Beam feat. Stone McKnuckle
The Gameboy has a lot of static going on by default, he'd need to do noise reduction processing or EQ'ing it out and that's honestly pretty difficult when the raw sample is so rough.
That said, it can definitely be done. I managed to get a pretty clean sounding render when I did the processing on 4 separate channels (meaning 4x the noise), so it's likely it could be fixed by recording all 4 channels at once from the Gameboy, then applying noise reduction processing, then EQ'ing the final mix to elevate the frequencies that got butchered by the processing. That's all theory though. Last edited by StoneMcKnuckle; 11-7-2012 at 03:18 PM.. |

Re: Afro Beam feat. Stone McKnuckle
It's recorded directly from my gameboy so that grittyness is expected. I usually record from an emulator and mix a bit from there, but honestly sometimes I like to cater to the chip music community and record raw so they can circlejerk over the static hehu.
so essencially there's no mixing done to this whatsoever. it will be in a future project though~

Re: Afro Beam feat. Stone McKnuckle
I'd gladly try to mix and master this once I'm done moving -- it sounds like a fun challenge.
Also yeah, it's not bad if you are chip purist I guess, the static does invoke a sort of nostalgia indeed... just pointing it out for you in case you wish to remove or keep it. I prefer hyper-clean tunes like this personally http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RLHRZ0370Q (this whole soundtrack, really) Notice the higher dyamic range and overall quieter master :P Last edited by Coolboyrulez0; 11-7-2012 at 03:21 PM.. |

Re: Afro Beam feat. Stone McKnuckle
oh of course. I'm a complete noob when it comes to mastering, so sometimes I don't even bother lmao. I am looking to re-record a bunch of tracks and find help to EQ them all for a super legit release that I'll print and shiz

Re: Afro Beam feat. Stone McKnuckle
It's not. Everything's on 4 channels so you get stuff like rhythm sections, possibly hats and snare all on one channel. It's frustrating as **** and not fun at all.

Coming from the heart. Your songs are seriously awesome. It's not even nostalgic for me anymore. Now it just reminds me of you. I'm definitely going to by an EP when it comes out. I wish I had the motivation half of the people on this site have to make music.
