Improving?
Hey everybody,
I've been playing this game for a good 2 months now and my skill has come to a point where i'm managing to FC most songs of difficulty 7 and down. I enjoy being this 'good' and I enjoy that my friends, who never played this type of game before, calling me sick for being able to read the arrows that fast. Now all is well, but I do always want to have a goal in the game that i'm playing, and i'm starting to wonder IF there is physically a goal available for me. I'm 17 years old, play 1.5x speed (comfort zone) and use ASKL key config, i'm starting to wonder though, if it is possible for a casual guy such as myself to keep improving from this point. I'm wondering this because i've come to the conclusion that physically i am yet unable to even get near to a 50 combo on difficulty 12 songs - i can't read the arrows fast enough and my fingers can't move fast enough. Conclusion: Is it possible for _any random person_ to be improving from difficulty 7 and on with the right practice, purely physically? It might sound a bit vague, and it might BE vague, but to the ones that understand the uncertainty that i'm in atm, please answer my question. Thanks, Dalenko. |

Re: Improving?
Its good that you're improving. You'll keep getting better if you continue playing, simple as that.
It will take stamina, endurance and speed to combo on FGO songs. Playing on mods like 2.0 and 1.75 will help you do that. But it will take some time.

Re: Improving?
time for some useless insight
Human physical limits and conditioning don't apply to someone at your skill level. Where you are at now, the game is 100% mental. There is no limit to your improvement, the only question is do you improve at a pace that is noticeable or not. |

Re: Improving?
yeah... id say theres only 1 or 2 songs on FFR that would challenge ones potential limit of skill achievable

Re: Improving?
No problem.
Keep this in mind...dont worry about full comboing the song, just focus on getting more perfects than goods. The game is about having perfect accuracy so you'll feel more comfortable being able to get less goods than stressing over scoring a high combo.

Re: Improving?
for you, as long as you keep playing and practicing harder songs, eventually, you will continue to increase you skill level. but the point is to keep playing. if you just play a few songs every few days, you most likely will not see much of an improvement in your game

Re: Improving?
Yeah, it's always possible to improve. As you get better you'll learn to be able to read more complicated patterns (and more arrows at a time). I'd say that pretty much everyone good was at the point where you are once When I first got my account I could barely even FC a difficulty 3 or 4 song, and yet now I have a perfect score on more than half of all songs in the game. (And I'm not even all that good!)
Don't worry about the difficulty 12 songs though - some of them are designed to be a serious challenge to even the best players. Try to see if you can FC songs that are a bit out of your league (maybe 9s or 10s), and once you can do that try harder stuff. (You might want to look at the forum topic which ranks all songs from difficulty 1 to 99 - some 9s or 10s or whatever are WAY easier than others.) Improvement is always gradual, so don't try to make a huge jump and then worry that you can't do it - take small steps at a time, and you'll find that if you work at it enough you will soon be able to easily FC songs that you can't even read now.

Re: Improving?
the best way to improve i think is to just play alot. i mean like ALOT. songs of all difficulty. keep playing masters only and even gurus only even though you cant keep up at the moment. so i recommend playing alot of 9's and 10's with alot of stream and jump stream to help you read better. and also just keep trying 11's and 12's and eventually you will get better. its not gonna happen over night but you just gotta play for a while and you'll just naturally get better. dont even think about improving when you play. just play and enjoy the music.

Re: Improving?
You'll hit a point where you will totally wreck shop. I played about 100 games a day for a month and I improved rapidly, where I was fcing some of the easier for masters only. My advice to you, switch your keys to dfjk, it is a tighter grouping and helps you be a bit more responsive, and switch your speed to 1.75. It will take a while to get used to 1.75 but it will help you get fcs in the higher difficulty's.
Make sure you get in games everyday, even if it's just 1, I stopped playing for like 4 months and now I suck major balls. |

Re: Improving?
I've said this before, and it applies itself here very well--monitor your playing and see what you struggle with most, and then isolate that aspect and get better at it. As you become a stronger player, your weaknesses will change, and you will need higher level songs to address them.

Re: Improving?
Lol seriously, Most of it's been said.. but seriously any normal person can play this game. It's just a bit of dedication. I used to be completely horrible. You're a lot better then I was after 2 months.
Just takes challenging yourself. I'm not an all time gamer person but yet I've proved to be "decent" at this game. So eh? There is hope for all. |

Re: Improving?
Woah, amazing!
Thanks for all your comments, they've motivated and helped loads. I notice indeed that i'm able to comfortly fc a song i used to be unable to get a 50+ combo at. (5 black skulls) I'm going for the difficulty 9 now, with my new key configuration. (thanks to Beethovens mask!) Rise Up is one of the songs i like to practice at, feels like i'm improving lots when i'm trying that. (I got the first 1/8th of the song down) Thanks for your comments again, if anything: feel free to be an addition and write it down - i'll be sure to read through this topic each day. Greetz, Dalenko Edit: And of course i'm playing on 1.75x now, thanks for that advice as well, keeps the focus up and my perfect-ratio has increased as opposed to goods. :] Last edited by Dalenko; 04-28-2009 at 02:22 PM.. |
