Default Ideas for Credits Thread

(Before I start, I apologize if this thread is more or less unnecessary because there's a thread for general suggestions already - I just felt this could use a thread of its own.)

Recently I've seen quite a few people point out credits losing their purpose. Even with Credit Jackpot in place, I feel that credits could serve more purposes than getting purchased/secret songs, bragging rights, etc.

Here are a few suggestions that came up in a Skype group convo -

1) Rates. - Totally not 20 different ones for every single song ingame; just a few for the most popular songs. The best thing would be to have a built-in rates feature that is unlocked when you buy it, but if that's not possible, maybe make them similar to purchased songs, but in a different genre?

2) Engine skins. - I remember there being a thread about this... and I remember someone saying this would be really hard to implement with the current engine. Would be neat if it was possible, though.

3) Character sets. - Both ready-made ones like the ones already on FFR, and customizable, blank sets. For the latter, you would be able to decide the pics for each range of credits earned on the song. Of course, this would cost much more than already-made sets, and there would be a limit to the number of blank sets you can edit and use at once.

I was talking to Zageron in Skype about credits too. I suggested some ideas about credits being a form of currency in a sense, with the value fluctuating and it being used for many different purposes. I won't go into details now, but he said that it should definitely be looked at, and would be a good possibility in the future.

Maybe for unlocking new noteskins/the ability to make your own... But that would be shit for me and kommisar because I'm not good enough to amass the amount of credits that would be required, and his computer is rubbish.

We could use credits to buy score multipliers to temporarily boost the raw score of a song... For instance:
x1.25 multiplier (1hr)=200cr, x1.25 multiplier (12hr)=2000cr
x2 multiplier (1hr)=4000cr, x2 multiplier (infinite)=a helicopter

Of course, these are only for quickly amplifying GT, and highscores won't be recorded, because that'll be shit.

Seriously, that's all I can think of. @_@

Except we don't want you to be able to artificially inflate your GTS, since it's a tracked and ranked stat, so it won't get through the lair (which is actually quite tastefully decorated)

Engine skins sounds like a cool idea, actually. Even something as subtle as a change from the usual blue in the background of the song select screen would be pretty neat.

Rates might be a decent idea if it can even be implemented (I'm sure it can what with certain songs getting 1.5 rated for April Fool's), but in order for credits to gain some of their value back, you would only be able to purchase rate options for one song at a time.

I completely forgot about dynamic skinning... The way flash works, as far as I know, if custom skinning was allowed then on a window resize the graphics would be stretched and distorted. Unless we lock the game engine at a specific "size ratio" (ie. objects move on the stage, but they don't change size) then it would be iffy.

It seems very plausible, and I'll look in to it.

Make buyable token songs that dont count towards average rank and we're in business. Also increase the gap between requierements of secret songs. What i mean by that is instead of having 3 pages of songs below 20k credits u could make them requiere alot more credits. I used to make 20k + credits per month when i was active, by the time a new player is good enough to play those 11's and 12's in secret they should have atleast 200k credits.

Ffr porn is a great idea lol, dont think ill be in demand much though.

You're assuming the graphics are non-vector. If the skins were made IN flash, then that problem wouldn't exist at all.

Edit: Credits to play songs at a faster rate, like kjwkjw said is a great idea. Guitar Sounds Gamma was soooooooooo fun. I want it back!!!!

Perhaps some kind of group membership for those with a certain amount of credits? Kind of like a "Wealthiest FFR Members" type thing? Change in username color?

not recommending these because I want it...I'm about to be back down to 60k because of my tournament and nobody donating.

Not really sure...it'd have to be a legitimately large amount, if we were to do a username color change. Probably 3-500k or something. Which I'll admit is discouraging to those with few like myself, but I think anything lower than 2-250k is just too easy to reach for regular playing higher end players. Perhaps a 3 tier thing? Tier 3 = 99,999 or less; Tier 2 = 100,000 to 249,999; Tier 1 = 250,000 to 499,999; Tier 0 = 500,000+

Tier 0 would be the equivalent of FFR's billionaires, without having billions obviously; Tier 1 would be multi-millionaires; Tier 2 would be the Upper Class; and Tier 3 would be the Lower Class. Even if this 'Title' just displayed somewhere on your profile and nowhere else, it would be another stat for those stat junkies who love their stuff being shown off all over their profiles.

Harder than you think. Right now notes are only stored at 30 fps, which isn't good enough - we'd have to implement rates by actually re-converting the SM files, which is how the April Fools ones were done. Otherwise, well, if you think framer issues on faster songs are a problem NOW... :O

I very much like this idea. You can have some serious credit sinks (20k ish credits a pop * 20+ files = lolpwn) without having people complain that their public ranks are being ruined. No, I really don't like this idea. We're already at 150k, which corresponds to roughly 7.5 billion, which is a LOT. (That's 180 hours of serious play, at a 1-billion-in-a-day rate.) Most players aren't anywhere near that dedicated, and will only ever get to that level by winning chunks of credits in tournaments or the like. I don't think we should expand this at all; it's discouraging to anybody who comes into FFR already being good at rhythm gaming (from SM or something like that) and wanting to get a good avrank, because they can't play all the public songs.

I think a lot of the older players vastly overestimate the number of credits a more casual player will amass. After a couple years, not only do you end up with a huge GT, but you have a whole bunch of winnings from various tournaments, mini contests, random people giving you stuff, that kind of thing. But getting a lot of credits just by playing the game is serious work, and we shouldn't be forcing people to put in a ridiculous amount of playtime just to fill out their *public* song list.
