A measure consists of 4 beats. Each stepfile is divided into measures for you before the steps are made. And basically the faster the beats per measure; the faster the track will scroll. Each measure is labeled with a number for your convienence.

Re: What is "measure" in simfiles?
keep in mind, it's only 4 beats in most simfile editors.
in actual music, a measure can be any number of beats, though it will typically be 4, 3, or 2, with quarter notes counting as each beats. in rarer occasions, there will be 5, 7, or 6. with eighth notes, it will typically be in multiples of 3 (mostly in 6). |

If it's a .sm file, then it distinguishes between different measures using that notation. If it's a .dwi file, then it doesn't.

Re: What is "measure" in simfiles?
The comma is there to signify a new measure. I'm not sure why it doesn't.

Re: What is "measure" in simfiles?
The comma marks a new measure and the more rows you put, you get 8th notes etc.
there are 8 8th notes in a measure...and 8 rows and 1 comma will signify it is split into 8th notes... If you have to resort by adding some steps in by hand, knowing this will help If there is no measure number dont worry about it.. its nothing death defying.. |

Re: What is "measure" in simfiles?
I have no idea why sometimes it records 'measure 1' 'measure 2' etc in the .sm for a chart and sometimes it does not. However, notice that whenever it does it is placed after double slashes;
, // measure 28 If you see // in a line, you know that everything after them is ignored by the program reading the file. This way you can know for sure that the 'measure 1' 'measure 2' etc markings have no meaning to Stepmania and are merely a guide for someone looking at the .sm in a text editor.

Re: What is "measure" in simfiles?
ohhhhhh!!!!! i guess i know why sometimes appears and sometimes not: as Patashu says
after "//" in a line is ignored by the program; BUT it wouldnt put "//" and "measure" in vain... So i guess it does that to guide us but why... because we MODIFY the simfile directly WITHOUT the program by NOTEPAD for example, after that it RECOGNIZE that and WRITE the famous // measure 1,2,3, etc... I star and finish it... anyways TXS everyone!!! |
