I have a question about excersise
So I've recently noticed (over the past year) that roughly half an hour after I go for a run I have these coughing fits that last up to an hour and half. The coughing doesn't hurt it's just really annoying.
I've always wondered why this happens. I drink plenty of fluids while I run and I stretch before and after. I've tried googling it, but found nothing much.

Re: I have a question about excersise
Maybe you're exerting yourself too much? Hmm it's not really something that people know..If it really bothers you, I think you should get it checked at the doctors.

Re: I have a question about excersise
Happened to me when i was young after football games
Try sizing down on how much you do, it's probably overexertion Build up distance over time, too much can be bad! |

Re: I have a question about excersise
That sounds like lung or bronchial irritation, yay Kinesiology~
You live in Dawson Creek, that means the air is probably really really cold and dry. If you have a gym in town, take some water and run, about as much as you usually do, on the treadmill. I doubt that you will have a coughing fit afterwards, assuming the humidity and temperature is good. A possible solution to the fits: Fill sink with hot water, drape large towel over head, drape place head over sink and use towel to prevent steam from escaping. Do this once you've finished stretching, and stay there for about 5 minutes. I found this to be effective, if done soon enough after the run.

Re: I have a question about excersise
Thanks for the help but I am very active, I am in Rugby and I am a sprinter and jumper in track. I run almost everyday and frequent the gym a lot. So I don't believe I'm out of shape.
@Zaggy, The weather may be the problem as I do run lots in the extreme cold and that usually when it happens. But, today was 13 above and I was running inside...

Re: I have a question about excersise
Yes, though regardless that you were running inside the air was probably too dry. Try breathing steam before and after your next run. Might help.

Re: I have a question about excersise
Breathing steam? You mean like a hot shower or a sauna, right? Just seems a little silly to me, but I live in a humid area.

Re: I have a question about excersise
I have never smoked anything in my life, be it cannabis or cigs.
And Zaggy, I'll try that on Monday after Rugby practise, thanks, I hope it works. @Arntornach The area I live in frequently gets to 40 below and we get barely any precipitation so the dry air theory is a possibility.

Re: I have a question about excersise
When outside it could be the cold that does it, (I can't jog in the cold, not that I'm a jogger these days.) When inside it's probably how dry it is. (In winter the air inside will always be drier than outside since how dry the air will be is basically how fast moisture gets absorbed into it. The cold air outside might actually be at 100% humidity when its
-25 but that same air, once inside and heated up, could be at like 15% humidity. Kinda weird that there's a delay though. Maybe its an allergen, it is spring. |

Re: I have a question about excersise
Doctor time. Maybe you have one of those gross parasites living in your lungs and all the exertion makes them wiggle around ;-p
