Re: New Usergroup Icons Feedback
These icons are pretty awesome.
Way better than the 2829382930239 titles people had under their name. Props to whoever made 'em. |

Re: New Usergroup Icons Feedback
I don't like it... they're just random little colored shapes to me. Sure, I can mouseover them and see what they mean, but at a glance they're just random colored bits, and I don't think I'll be mousing over enough to actually learn them. Maybe if they were a bit bigger (twice?) and the icons were closely related to their meanings, I'd like them more. Like a musical note for Music Producer, an arrow for Simfile Author, a clock or calendar for Veteran, that kind of thing.

I figured it would be more intuitive to have different shapes for different kinds of positions. Content Creators and Player Statuses got lumped together because they're both things you earn once and never lose. And the colors are the colors we're all familiar with, with a few slight tweaks, like the Music Author being more yellow again and Difficulty Consultant being halfway between Simfile Judge and Sectional Moderator. The system will be more difficult for new people who had never seen title colors before, but the bottom of the FAQ lists all the titles and stuff. The original choice of colors may have been arbitrary, but it's consistent and shouldn't be hard to learn, with only Retired Staff, Event Staff and the Player Statuses sticking out, because they aren't in a group. Hmm. I suppose sectional moderators could be an even lighter green than profile moderators to keep with the "moderators are green" theme. Last edited by Silvuh; 08-2-2014 at 05:02 PM.. |

Re: New Usergroup Icons Feedback
would an option to toggle between icons and titles be possible? I think the icons are neat and help relieve some clutter (an example would be halogen's old set of titles, practically had a fuckin resume), but they're not very intuitive

Anyway, maybe people could work on a basic set of shapes that make things more obvious. The geometry is good if you know what it means but no new user is going to realize how much more important a square is than a triangle. Even a letter (like an M shape for moderators) would help. PS: What's the criterion to get Retired Staff? Were you a pentagon or up? Square or up?

In fact, except for those two users, they would have all had a star as they were all administrators at some point. |

Re: New Usergroup Icons Feedback
We're still not really in concrete agreement on what staff status gets Retired Staff. Anyone who rage quits, or does something awful, etc... wouldn't get the status.

Re: New Usergroup Icons Feedback
So are FFR Veteran and Retired Staff the only things that are going to be represented on profiles now?

Going off of the showgroups.php page he was only a mod for BB and TWG, so I don't think he ever held an admin title

Re: New Usergroup Icons Feedback
using animated tooltips for each group instead of the default link tooltips would be nice. i can't imagine it would be too difficult to do this with something like jquery.

Re: New Usergroup Icons Feedback
"FFR Legends" was replaced with "Retired Staff" so we can recognize those who have had a significant influence on the community, but are not considered 'legendary' or Hall of Fame recipients.
edit: The latest additions to this group are Summerschool and HammyMcSquirrel. Last edited by PrawnSkunk; 08-31-2014 at 01:05 PM.. |
