For active and mobile use, they're far and beyond the best you can get.

Literally you could have a bus run over them and they'll still work. Their only weakness is scissors, in all honesty

Better quality ear buds surely exist, but saying I haven't used them doesn't disregard how well they fit into your ear.

if you got $150 to spend, you can grab the ATH-M50s from amazon (oops sorry I said amazon). it's definitely a solid investment you won't regret.

otherwise you're better off grabbing another set of sennheisers than any shitty earbuds or headphones/headsets posted in this thread. HD280, HD380, HD518, and HD558 are all well within the price range of your HD428s and are pretty decent headphones. avoid anything by razer because you're essentially paying for oversized plastic cans with bass boost buzz words, which are fine for gaming and chatting, but for listening to music it's not very good unless you're tone deaf.

hit up jordane and rulululu for any other suggestions, I'm not audiophile engineer enough to give you recommendations to go by.

Plus, when I'm out and about in a city with cars and busses running by me, I'm not worried about sound quality.

The good news is, if you get hit by a bus at least your earbuds will survive.

Fun fact: I've actually been hit by a bus! And, yes, my headphones survived. I walked away with a broken wrist

I retract my statement as it would seem that they fit some peoples ear exceptionally well like mine, and not so well for others. Depends on the ear. Makes sense.

Having been forced to use the apple earbuds from my ipod before i was able to get a new headset for my laptop, It was a pretty terrible experience and not worth it. For one, after wearing them for 10-12 hours a day, it started to irritate the fuck out of my ears. The sound quality was also objectively pretty shitty. I'm pretty sure a cheap headset from walmart would have much higher sound quality tbh.

Yea, I wouldn't wear anything but earbuds in public. Makes me wonder if there are any sound isolating earbuds.

To answer your question about earbuds that are noise cancelling, yes there are some out there. I currently have the Etymotic Hf5 earbuds, and they can cancel out pretty much ALL sound with them just in your ears listening to nothing. Once sound kicks in to both ear pieces, you don't hear a thing except for your music.

http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/hf5.html

Of course, that's if you want to fork out the $150 for a pair......

:/ I said ear buds because I use them in class and they're pretty much mandatory for shutting out the screaming of the crappy CRT monitors they'll never replace. Using headphones would make it look like I'm completely closed to the teacher's lecture (even though I'm pretty much teaching myself and others as this is a graphic design course) and my $20 Sony's (lol crap) are starting to go. I'm surprised they lasted so long. The left ear pretty much cracked open at one time and I managed to get it back together without damaging them. They wont last much longer.

Anyway, if what you guys are saying is "don't waste your money on earbuds" then I'll make sure to get another really cheap pair lmao (dat shit sound quality doe q_q)

edit: also sorry for hijacking the thread so hard choof. I didn't think it would turn in to a debate D:

I'm telling you, apple earbuds are the shit. High quality for extremely cheap, plus if they ever break you can replace them for free (experience: 4 new sets of headphones after separate disasters)

Like I said before, you need a tank to destroy them too. Only reason mine broke was getting hit by a bus, falling off my bike mountain biking, unfortunate vacuuming apocalypse, and one just through major wear and tear.

The old apple earbuds were cancerous in all aspects, but the earpods are not too bad. It's by no means high quality; it has an overall thin and muddy sound, and its mid-bass spike can deceive the average user. On the other hand, it does provide a more refined sound than the previous gen and has a more tamed treble than most entry-level earbuds.

...but according to Apple:

I wonder what kind of headphones they were comparing to.
