Bad assumptions (and why they're bad)
I may not have titled this exactly as I want but I came up with a good analogy for a particularly annoying bad assumption. Feel free to use it in everyday life if you think it can help even a single ignorant person mend their ways.
"Assuming computer programmers like to fix computers is the same as assuming piano composers like to fix pianos." -- me Post any other common bad assumptions which particularly annoy you (and especially illustrate exactly why they are bad) or comment on those posted. |

"You won't miss that beer, you have ten left"
Are you kidding me? Those are MY beers, bring your own god damn drinks. If you are sober enough to think that I am just gonna hand out my drinks, you obv didn't prepare yourself for this party very well... (plus it takes a stupid amount to get me drunk, so yea, I WILL miss that beer ;____

Re: Bad assumptions (and why they're bad)
This is one that just annoys me at work (I work at a movie theater).
Customers say this to me all the time. "You work here, so you must have watched all of the movies." This is the phrase I usually get from the customer: "Is (insert movie title here) any good, you have seen it right?" I don't know if it's any good, I haven't watched the movie. |

Re: Bad assumptions (and why they're bad)
"Practice makes perfect!" Bullshit, I can be doing something incorrectly for a long period of time and not be improving. This is the definite case for me on shading right now. Things are learned through explanation and actual experience, and there are limitations -- you didn't just solely get experience and skill from "practice" because if that were the case, I would certainly not be the top tanked FFR player right now.
"Nothing's impossible if you try!" Ok go run a mile in under 3 minutes then. All you have to do is try right? "If I can do it, you can do it" It's not a one-fits-all situation, derp "Anime is for losers" <---- I don't even watch anime and I can say the people who assume this are retarded, lol

Re: Bad assumptions (and why they're bad)
"Practice makes perfect" and "Nothing's impossible if you try" are more aiming to motivate a person instead of being an assumption imo

Re: Bad assumptions (and why they're bad)
I get these as well, and very few times I get asked if I'm asian (idk maybe because of my eyes?) as well as "Are you high?"

Re: Bad assumptions (and why they're bad)
If you have internet access you have no life.
My perception of having a life and someone else's are probably different, but I'm perfectly happy with my drug-free, alcohol-free normal ass rule-abiding life.

Re: Bad assumptions (and why they're bad)
Long hair + facial hair = stoner deadbeat waste of flesh. Without trying I'm worth more than most average people could amount to :/
Also; Goth = Emo. If a bunch of metalheads started dressing like japanese schoolgirls or some shit, but maintained all their habits, would you call them japanese schoolgirls? They're obviously something else, recognize them as such, it'd be insulting to schoolgirls if you called a 40+ year old dude who smells of cigarettes and beer and has been chasing Metallica all his life one. Re: Bad assumptions (and why they're bad)
This used to be said to me in highschool:
"You're quiet in class so you must be smart! What's the answer for this question? Can I copy your work??" I hated that, im just as clueless as everyone else I just choose not to talk. |

When anyone assumes graphic design and print related jobs are extremely easy to get done right.
"I'm going to get this professionally printed and it will turn out right because they're professionals!" RGB 72ppi image going to a 266ppi CYMK printer

People assuming I'm Asian just because I can play FFR better than themselves. (btw, its a half-correct assumption. I'm only half-Asian.) I hate it.
