General Difficulty Discussions & Consultant Insight
--- This thread is a place for you to discuss things outside of individual song changes, such as the 1-20 borders or other issues you might have. Discussion is welcome, but arguments/flaming/trolling will not be tolerated. Any posts can and will be deleted at any time because of this, and ignoring the requests to cease such behaviour will result will get you banned from the subforum for a length determined by the severity of your offense and in some cases will result in a temporary/permanent sitewide ban.DISCLAIMER --- Now that the boring part is over... Sup guys! As many of you are aware, I've recently undertaken the massive overhaul of the FFR difficulty system, and recruited the assistance of our 2 new Difficulty Subforum Local Moderators and Official FFR Difficulty Consultants Stavie33 and One Winged Angel. We're hoping that the changeover is as painless as possible for everyone involved, but want to assure you all that we value your opinions/discussions pertaining to recent changes. The next post is reserved for Stavie33 and One Winged Angel so that they can both add insight to the way they made the decisions and rated files in the process of helping make this new system possible. Feel free to approach either of these guys about their work/decision making regarding difficulties in this thread. If there is common questions raised, we can create a FAQ in the next post to cover these issues~ So without further delay, leave us your thoughts here and take note of the 2 stickies when thinking about making threads. Thanks for all of your patience during this project, it is much appreciated!! ~Jae Last edited by nois-or-e; 06-8-2012 at 07:54 AM.. |

Re: General Difficulty Discussions & Consultant Insight
There are some SERIOUS mistakes in the sticky for 1-20 ratings.
Flight of the Bumblebee [US Army Strings] was a 7 in the old scale, 7 on 1-99 and 3 on 1-20 scale. TGWP was a 10, 10 on 1-99 and 4 on 1-20. Didn't see any others.

Re: General Difficulty Discussions & Consultant Insight
TGWP Part 1 was most likely missed during the difficulty overhaul. It should be a 60 and will be fixed soon.
As for Flight of the Bumblebee [US Army Strings], refer to the spoiler titled 'songs yet to be sorted' in the OP of Current songs 1-20. Some of the more recent easier files haven't been rated yet, and a few token/legacy files were missed. |

Re: General Difficulty Discussions & Consultant Insight
This new system has made it a lot easier to know which songs to play next on my goal of reaching 1,000 FC's. Having the 1-99 numbers to sort by in the level ranks makes it easy for me to target which songs to go for first. Also, when I go to AAA songs, I can start with the ones that have been rated the easiest within a difficulty.
So far, the sorted songs seem very consistent, keep up the good work. Also, will we still have the ability to sort by the 1-99 scale in our ranks, or just the 1-20? Either way, the old 1-13 scale had way too many gaps to be consistent, this is a great improvement. |

Re: General Difficulty Discussions & Consultant Insight
yeah sorry guys I've been super hectic preparing for my trip to japan. There are still a good handful of songs I need to sort out (mainly they were songs released after I finished my initial list). Once I'm in Japan and have my network set up and running, I'll be correcting those asap. I may get to them tonight or not, but for all the songs that are currently unsorted, don't worry about them for now.

The remainder are being dealt with a.s.a.p, but as both of our Difficulty Consultants have put in a lot of hours recently helping make this new system possible, I'm not stressing them out too much about the last few to go in~ Thanks for the input guys. Remember to post any questions/comments/errors in this thread!!

Re: General Difficulty Discussions & Consultant Insight
Field of Snow [Light] was a Difficulty-4 song (on 1-13 scale), but is of Difficulty 28 now (on 1-99 scale).
Most of the D4 songs (on 1-13 scale) are converted to D7 to D10 (on 1-99 scale), so I believe Field of Snow [Light] is in no way a D28 song (on 1-99 scale). ( D28 song (on 1-99 scale) should be a mid-D7 song (on 1-13 scale). ) |

Re: General Difficulty Discussions & Consultant Insight
Thanks Hizack, you are indeed correct. I have that in my notes/spreadsheets as a 7/99, not a 28/99. Might've been a case of scrolling my mousewheel down before clicking outside box~
Any others anyone notices, mention them here if you'd like them addressed a.s.a.p ;D

Re: General Difficulty Discussions & Consultant Insight
Took a quick look through my level ranks and I think I spotted a few songs that didn't get their difficulties changed: Elements, Synesthetic FFR Edit, and Angel Stays On This Ground -Vocal Remix-. Can you check these?

Re: General Difficulty Discussions & Consultant Insight
Not sure if this is on topic, but the random option on legacy still only goes up to 13.

Re: General Difficulty Discussions & Consultant Insight
^^ I really think this should be addressed somehow if possible... The random option on Legacy engine is completely worthless now.

Re: General Difficulty Discussions & Consultant Insight
8 - Satanic Unicorn Orgy
8 - Daybreak 8 - Star Wars Anthology Are these in the right place? I feel like these are 8s under the old system. |

Re: General Difficulty Discussions & Consultant Insight
I noticed that this:
has not been updated to the new scale. I would suggest either making it 1-20 or the specific numbers within the scale (i.e. 64-69 for Expert)

Not entirely sure what you're looking at there...
I had to clear cache in IE before reloading the engine to get the update~

Re: General Difficulty Discussions & Consultant Insight
Okay, opened up Velo's engine.
1) Show only doesn't work for me at all when I check certain difficulties, and I can't check the boxes for any diff above 12. 2) Hiding all but 12 leaves anything from 12+ visible. Not having this update to the legacy engine is a major turnoff for me because I love that random button. It's still useless as of now, lol.

Huzzah I wasn't the only one who was all QQ about the random button.
On another note I do not support this difficulty change in the slightest, it took me a year to learn my comfort zone on 1-13 and to use that scale as my entire building stone of skill development, Now I have no damn idea whats what or how its all going, I'm actually enjoying FFR less as a result of this change (Random button fix for 1-99 on legacy upped it a bit).

also didn't think the 1-99 scale would be used in-game. thought 1-20 was being used in-game just the 1-99 deciding which group of 1-20 they go in. it just seems like a cluster**** of numbers and looks bad, in my opinion. sorry in advance if I'm wrong or that's the next step. off-topic: also x2 find it funny how some of the old fmo/fgo borderlines were below/above other fmo's/fgo's (ANTI-ares/Time to eye were in the same group [77], and Frictional Nevada/Gymnastics were above [78] the previous songs yet in the same group). didn't quite add up to me.

Re: General Difficulty Discussions & Consultant Insight
EVen 1-20 is gonna make me re-learn, JX was nice enough to post by 1-99 difficulty with the recent song release, but before that when Jae posted the 1-20 NAMES, I quite frankly had no idea what the difficulties of the songs were AT ALL, I least look forward to the 1-20 names, and having to learn them all relative to VC FMO FGO FSO which is basically all I played
