First siggy attempt using GIMP
I made my first siggy .
I think it turned out OK, for my first attempt. Tell me what you think. The only thing I wasn't sure of was what file type to save it as... It's a .jpg. There is always room for improvement, especially with this, so tell me what I can do to make it look better. Thanks! [EDIT] Woah, now that it's on the forums I see a whole bunch of empty space... |

O hey cool found a way to visit it to see it. I like it. I like the design and what not. I'm interested in seeing how you do when you start working with text. Tell me what you did with it because I myself am still learning.
P.S. Nice lighting effect. Try playing around with them some more. |

Re: First siggy attempt using GIMP
I was planning on having the text in the bottom left, bigger, but I couldn't get the glow to work, so I put it in the radial gradient. I'll PM you with steps on how to get that glow effect.

Re: First siggy attempt using GIMP
It kinda looks like you pwned a black wall with a brush but it still looks pretty cool. I used to be pro with GIMP, stop making stuff a long while back.

Re: First siggy attempt using GIMP
Visually appealling. It's pretty good for a first attempt especially. The black space can be seen as intentional, and personally I kind of like it. It has a more simplistic style-- just because it wasn't intentional doesn't make it a bad thing.
But yes, when it isn't framed after you've been working on it and its contrasted against another color it can look a lot different. Keep up the good work.

Re: First siggy attempt using GIMP
Thanks!
I want to learn more about Gimp from someone with experience, so... anyone with experience, PM me. I know about layers and layer modes, the different tools and what they do, and I've only begun to tap in to the effects and combinations of effects... I'm not deep enough into the program to begin achieving a certain look on my own through reasoning, so I'm sifting through tutorials trying to find how to learn the basics. Help, please! I'm determined to get better at using Gimp! Last edited by Shadowcliff; 01-4-2009 at 02:20 PM.. |

Re: First siggy attempt using GIMP
Actually, it's very nice, besides the amount of empty space. I do like the focus of it though. The glow effect is good, I like how it isn't just one solid color, that there's some fluctuation of it's color along the way.
4/5, and gratz on managing this with GIMP.

Re: First siggy attempt using GIMP
Not bad.
I haven't used GIMP before so I don't know how good this is, to be honest. I'm told saving it has a .png is good. *shrug*

Awesome. But,
save as .png It improves the quality and overall look. Trust me, Chidori! beat this into my head when I first started. You must do this to have a better quality graphic. |

Re: First siggy attempt using GIMP
Save as .png. Got it!
PNGs support transparency, right? |

Re: First siggy attempt using GIMP
Why can't you save as .jpg? That's what I usually do because I never knew any better, but they don't hold transparencies. :[

Re: First siggy attempt using GIMP
jpg's reduce quality like it's their job (which, I guess, it is). png has a low footprint with little loss in quality. Yes, png supports transparency.
