Thanks so much. Amazing guide, and I didn't know most of it.

Re: A real guide on how to make a good simfile
Glad a thread like this exists.
The only place I don't agree is in PR, I know it makes sense in terms of reading music to have the notes on the right be related to pitch relevance (not to mention if you play GH enough you start doing this automatically) but I've found that it only needs to be locally pitch relevant or only sometimes pitch relevant. These are, however, just opinions. Also, I don't think it needs to be pitch relevant to be a fun/good file. It's just harder to make one like this because you have to make it fun without using more solid guidelines. hi19's example was thermosphere, I think...

Re: A real guide on how to make a good simfile
Why is DukAmok's outdated sims thread above this?
I'm seriously considering a sticky request. For now, I'm sigging the link to the thread.

Re: A real guide on how to make a good simfile
How about this: If you want to add BPM changes, do them last. That way, you can focus on the notes first, THEN you can apply BPM tricks and stops.

Noted.
Also, another update. Added a TIPS section and a note about packs.

Re: A real guide on how to make a good simfile
I hate to bug you again Ducky, but you might want to note rolls and how white notes are turned into green ones. (sorry, I'm a tad tired over here, so I'm gonna go to sleep)

And...white notes? Are you talking about BMS's dumb stepfile parser turning 48ths and **** into white arrows? That's a Bemanistyle issue, not a stepfiling issue.

Great thread. I've recently been spending at least two weeks on one file (and actually a good portion of one day working on it). |

Re: A real guide on how to make a good simfile
12.5 is the essence of StepMania. It's more like a foul odor, but essence sounds better.
32ND TRILLS SHARPNEL DRAGONFORCE RHAPSODY VSNARES 16TH STREAM JUMPSTREAM JAZZ (THAT DIDN'T REALLY HAPPEN) LAYERING TRIPLE LAYERING Hey, guys. Good decisions on your own is the only way to keep from falling into the same old crowd. Group decisions, such as "Overuse of X is a problem, so let's all do Y," is not a solution. |

1. Look who's talking.
2. I was bumping the thread, so I posted since editing my post won't bump the thread. 3. I'm still puking rodent hair.

Re: A real guide on how to make a good simfile
Thanks a lot for the guide. It helped me understand jumps and making a dummy chart helped me a lot on Sunshine Stone. Thanks again!

Re: A real guide on how to make a good simfile
Oh, wow... I am overjoyed at the fact that i am seeing artists say they are taking a longer time stepping as to create higher quality stepfiles. I realize i don't have a line of nifty black text under my name, but i do have experience in stepping none the less.
This is a high-quality guide so if i haven't already requested a sticky here, I do so now. |

Because the mods never visit these boards.
If it wasn't for the report post system, you could post porn without the mods noticing.
