FFR Chip Music Compilation
So you like composing. Great! If you're new to the genre, this will be infinitely fun to explore. I'm looking for a few musicians willing to contribute to a compilation of chip music right here on FFR. Making chip music is easy, and allows you to explore a minimalist style of composition. It's mostly based on hobby and nostalgia, but the outcome is up to you.
How does I make Chip Music? You can make chip music through vsti plugins, or with actual 8bit software/hardware. Vst (fakebit) My personal recomendations: ymvst: http://www.preromanbritain.com/ymvst/ magical8bit: http://www.ymck.net/magical8bitplug/...ug_for_win.zip peach/toad/triforce: http://www.tweakbench.com/peach Ipatch's C64 drumkit: http://www.liphian.net/kommisar/C64.zip (highly legit) Trackers/software Famitracker: http://famitracker.shoodot.net/ Milkytracker: http://milkytracker.org/ LSDJ: http://www.littlesounddj.com/lsd/ Submissions

Re: FFR Chip Music Compilation
That's a direct link to pirated software. Do yourself a favor and buy the damn software. $55 is more than justifiable for this amazingly good synth.
I'll whip something up, but do know that it will probably follow the authentic feeling of only having three voices at once. Last edited by Starshot; 12-17-2010 at 12:09 PM.. |

Re: FFR Chip Music Compilation
I personally also wouldn't call chiptune composing "minimalist" by ANY stretch of the definition. There are several composers who have created insanely polyphonic with various motives when it comes to chiptunes. Minimalism implies that there's only a few certain ideas being expressed.
Also, does the submission half to be full chiptune or part chiptune? I've done several chiptune breakdowns in my hardcore tunes. |

Quote:
not that it really matters, but i'll take it off for mod's sake submissions should be ~mostly~ chiptune but I'm certainly not restricting adding other instruments in the mix. also I meant minimalist in the sense that there's only a few legitimate shapes of waves to produce 8bit (sin, pulse, triangle etc) and being original with "purist" software is much more difficult

You forgot Plogue Chipsounds =P.
Also: Some questions. Are submissions going to be in any sort of format? Do you want renders, or things like .xm files? Because I'd really like to make this in Renoise if I decide to do this, but I don't think Renoise can OUTPUT .xm/.mod. It can certainly load them, but I'm not sure if it can save them. |

Def. whipping something up for this, brb

Chiptune Breakcore acceptable? Chip drums, blips and all? If so, then I'm in.

Re: FFR Chip Music Compilation
Thinking about fixing up Chippy Dippy for this. Make a better beat with the chip drum kit, better progression, etc.
