Anyway, you build your character up by doing quests, which gives you experience needed to increase your base level and items to increase your power. Rinse and repeat. Also, along the way you can work together with people in 5-player dungeons where you kill various powerful monsters for good items, or at the level limit, 10- or 25- player raids where you kill various powerful monsters for extremely good items. You can also PVP, where you work with a team to kill other players, which gives similar items to dungeons. You also have "professions" which let you create items out of things you'll find in the game world. Everyone has an aspect that they like and cling to. Typical MMO fare, but WoW does it better than the rest.

Re: Who here plays WoW?
Rule of thumb with MMOs
Pick two: [ ] Good [ ] Free [ ] MMO Also I guess I've been too shallow to overcome the "x class is OP" barrier. I'm pretty sure everyone else hates warlocks equally. Last edited by roundbox; 10-2-2008 at 12:43 AM.. |

Re: Who here plays WoW?
So far i've played every class but druid up to 30, and a druid is going to be my next character to lvl after my hunter. Either that or i'll finish my rogue.

Pretty sure I've tried every class as well, favorite of course is priest. Not sure if I have a least favorite but I seem to enjoy caster classes more than melee classes.

Re: Who here plays WoW?
My least favorite is shaman truthfully. Maybe if they had a CC and their healing wasn't downranked Chain Heal I would be interested. They just need a way to spice up the play style of shamans. Enhancement is probably the only tree I would find interesting but it's pretty gimp at the moment.

Re: Who here plays WoW?
last time I checked it had a 45 second cooldown, which is terrible. Considering it only lasts 30 seconds in pve and 10 seconds in pvp, definitely not comparable to any other CC. It also doesn't even cause loss of character control, it's basically a 10 second silence that can break on damage.

Re: World of Warcraft
At least they get some improvement from being the only class without some form of CC.

Re: World of Warcraft
Losing 29 defense would probably slide me back under uncrushable again. Don't worry I'm aware of my need to start subbing in more stamina. Mostly it's that as I get better loot (badges, more T4 etc) I'll generate extra defense from gear intrinsics, and start subbing out the gems for the 12 and 15 stamina ones, fix that problem right up.
And besides, having more defense means I have more outright avoidance too. 29 defense rating is 4.64% more total avoidance, and 3.48% of that is straight up "I don't take damage" So even if I'm overcapped on crush as well as crit, the ability to start pushing block off the attack table in favour of more miss/dodge/parry helps make up for lower HP. I can and have tanked fairly high above my gear, since in addition to the extra avoidance, I've been playing this paladin as prot since level 1 so I actually know how to tank usefully. Also you can focus on avoidance by gemming for it. Gemming for def is less effective than going the direct gemming route to get avoidance. Quote:

Compare to dodge, wherein each point of dodge rating is 0.05% chance to dodge. So switiching out 4def for 4dodge moves me up from 0.16% dodge to 0.20% dodge, but also drops me the 0.16% parry/block/miss. So when I'm overly uncrushable, I can turn blocks into dodges by shifting the excess defense rate into more dodge rate, but that's at a fairly steep exchange rate. I'd have to be 0.44% over 102.4% to switch defense for dodge and still remain uncrushable, which would then increase my overall chance to dodge by 0.16% If I'm that far over 102.4% I'd generally be better served, as you suggested, to simply convert the avoidance into more stamina, which is what I'm slowly doing as I come across the means to do so. Quote:
I've had people go from "I really don't think you're geared enough to tank this, but hell we need a tank, so we'll try you out" to "Holy crap, I'm asking you first all the time now" after the run is finished. When I say I was a tank from 1-70, I don't even just mean I was protection spec from 1-70. I created at level one with a housemate friend of mine who rolled up a mage. We created on the same day, and hit 70 within an hour of each other. I was basically -tanking- for the entire play experience I had, learning from like, deadmines on up, how to keep and hold aggro off DPS characters, and whatnot. It really made a huge difference, to the point where I really can only play tanks now. Last edited by devonin; 10-6-2008 at 05:26 PM.. |

Thinking of starting up again once the expansion comes out. I'll most likely stick with my mage. http://www.wowarmory.com/character-s...ther&n=Ichijou

Re: World of Warcraft
I tried this, but didn't feel like paying money anymore to play it. Well actually, I never did. My mom got me some free trial things, so when they ran out, she wouldn't let me keep playing.. Sucks..
Anyways, there was this old WoW game that wasn't online. It was just humans v orcs. I played it all the time at a friend's house, but I never could afford it myself. Now that I can, I can't find it and I'm not allowed to make internet purchases.. (stupid mother) I can't seem to find any free versions, either, so I guess WoW is dead to me. DX |

Are you talking about Warcraft II? That game was so much fun. Haven't played it in years though.
