Leaving for U.S. Army BMT this month
You all will finally be getting a lot less of me later this month - even though I haven't really been around that much recently. Getting sworn in on May 14 then leaving for BMT May 26 and officially starting boot camp June 1 at Fort Jackson in South Carolina then training for my MOS on August 10 at Fort Gordon in Georgia. My MOS is 25U Signal Support Systems Specialist.
My recruiter did tell me that I'll be given another option to see if there are other MOS's that fit me best. Was really trying to get Financial Management Technician or Human Resources Specialist because I am researching on starting my own indoor zip line/ropes course business sometime after I get out - either after my term or if I want to do the 20 years. Maybe I'll get lucky. Last edited by DotKritic; 05-11-2015 at 12:42 PM.. |

Re: Leaving for U.S. Army BMT this month
your recruiter is lying to you 100%
by the time you are able to switch to a new mos, your contract will be up you dont get a second chance at meps to pick a new mos, once you're slotted with an mos you are required to go to ait for it mos reclass is a long string of paperwork and if your unit doesnt like you (they wont because you're going in as a private), prepare to have your paperwork misplaced more than once Last edited by choof; 05-11-2015 at 01:46 PM.. |

But yeah I'd say try to reclass now if your mos isn't 100% what you want to do.

Re: Leaving for U.S. Army BMT this month
Had to change my MOS because the security clearance didn't work out. Chose 92G Food Services Specialist. Yay!! Get to learn to work in and run a restaurant. Kind of exciting because I want to go to university for Entrepreneurship. Not necessarily to run a restaurant. Still shipping out the same day and going to the same BMT location, but going to Fort Lee in Virginia for AIT.
Food Services Specialist wasn't even on my list, but was one I could do for 3 years 21 weeks. My list: 1. 42A Human Resources Specialist 2. 36B Financial Management Technician 3. 19D Cavalry Scout 4. 31B Military Police 5. 31K Military Working Dog Handler 6. 25B Information Technology Specialist 7. 12B Combat Engineer 8. 11B Infantryman 9. 68Q Pharmacy Specialist 10. 68E Dental Specialist 11. 35F Intelligence Analyst 12. 15Q Air Traffic Control Operator 13. 15W Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Operator edit: The cutoff score for E-5 is so low that I could become SGT by the time my term ends. Re: Leaving for U.S. Army BMT this month
Big bump here to update.
BCT was fun. Graduated August 13. I enjoyed shark attack. I hated NIC. I'm about to start Week 2 of AIT. Scheduled to graduate October 15. Day 1: I made potato salad and fruit salad Day 2: I made scrambled eggs and cheese omelet for breakfast (instead of scrambled eggs, we could have made over hard or over easy) and Corn O'Brian for lunch. We cooked for ourselves and got to eat after finishing. The MOS name changed to Culinary Specialist to make it more appealing to potential employers when I get out.
