Re: E3 2014
I'm sure there's going to be all sorts of rules to make the new game not like Brawl.
I don't know, I'm just kind of excited because... man... if there's actually good online service for this new Smash Brothers game with customize-able rule sets that players can either create or find accordingly. That's a gold mine in my opinion. Also, maybe it's because I don't really see the problem, but item usage I think can be fun if fine-tuned just right for a particular rule-set so no one has a sudden advantage.

Re: E3 2014
Items can be fun for completely casual gameplay even if I can't remember the last time I used them, but using them in a match to determine the better fighter adds a completely unnecessary element of randomization lacking the straightforwardness of utilizing ones characters move set and stage and match-up knowledge to win.

Re: E3 2014
yoshi game i hope they don't fuck up like kirby epic yarn. that game was a disaster almost solely on the fact that there was no consequence to dying.
smash looks alright. it won't replace melee but I'll enjoy it casually with friends. zelda warriors dynasty warriors rehash blah blah new zelda game though idk we'll see. I wasn't huge on twilight princess and skyward sword. splatoon looked hella fun yes yes yes mario maker lol it's like they forgot that people have been making custom levels for well over a decade now toad game yeah sure why not. looks fun. bayonetta well I might get this since it comes bundled. never was my sort of game but I might change my mind when I pick it up kirby rainbow cuse myiamoto secretly showcasing new starfox game in development hngggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg new pokemon game stuff we already know basically. i'll probably get this too even though it was my least favorite gen xenoblade is probably the game I'm looking forward to the most new smash character announcement

Re: E3 2014
death should have larger consequences in genres such as rpgs/rts/shooters/etc
even older games such as smw3 and mario64 had relatively small consequences for dying |

Re: E3 2014
^ oops urrite
super mario bros. 3 had a pretty significant life count constraint imo. sure you can stack a bunch of lives if you've played a lot and know how to work the system, but starting out? probably gonna gameover here and there. mario 64 yeah lives were not a thing. |

Re: E3 2014
Actually both Heroes of Light and Shadow and Awakening both have Casual mode where your units suffer no penalty for dying so there goes that theory lol

Re: E3 2014
Last I remember, the penalty for getting hurt in Epic Yarn was a loss of collectibles, which meant that if you wanted to 100% the game, you had to go for no damage run. Miyamoto even stated that was the main reason for that mechanic. Actually trying to go for 100% in that game is frustratingly difficult.

Re: E3 2014
totes depends on the type of game. if it's story driven then characters are probably given genders and being able to mess with that is a little weird because then the characters are less solidly defined I guess. although if there's hella gender roles going on then that's dumb. if you get to CREATE UR OWN HEROOOO PERSON and there's no girl or whatever option then imo it's less that the company is sexist and more that they're bad at making creation tools.
I cant beat this game, I practiced a lot not even kidding I cant do it |

Re: E3 2014
Whoa, didn't know about the pac-man thing, that's interesting, lol.
Also, I was hoping it wasn't serious, but I guess it is. My own stance on that is that I could really care less about what gender I'm playing my game at. If the game demands me to play a male role, then okay, cool, I don't see the problem. If the game demands me to play a female role, then okay, that's cool too, I don't see the problem. If the game gives me an option to choose a gender because it won't effect whatever story the developers came up with, then awesome. Some minor replayability points. I don't see this as a sexist issue, lmao. |
