Re: Terminal Categorization
Yeah that's true if you're a spread player.

Re: Terminal Categorization
What is your plan of action if I may ask ? Other than waiting for an agreement on categories.

Re: Terminal Categorization
After the agreed categories are in place I'm gonna play through each song starting at difficulty 30 and keep going until I reach level 70. I'll keep track of estimated categories and place them to start.
After I post my results I'll go through the whole list again 1 more time with the feedback I get in here to finalize categories. After that would come filling in the other categories that didn't stand out and apply numeric values for all 5 (meaning the initial batch will just use a general YES/SOME/NO for the categories)

Re: Terminal Categorization
imean the way IIIIIIIIII would do it is to create a google sheet linked to a google form that allows people to submit their ratings which can all be aggregated in one spot allowing people to chip away at it whenever they want to until there's enough data to do anything with. That way, you can go on your one-man mission but also let others participate as well.
Completely willing to set it all up btw

Re: Terminal Categorization
The thing is that if you manage to at least semi-formalize your categories, your classification can be coded in like a few hours. Maybe you'd be better off spending your energy on that instead.

Well I'm telling you it is doable, and would cut down your estimate 1 year by pretty much 360 days if you take a solid 4 days thinking about the categories in a more well-defined way, without them being 100% accurate. EDIT: Also, how many songs were you planning to categorize ? I'm asking because if you had in mind to pick a select few files for each category then it's probably great but the more files you'll want to classify, the more you'll have to make you categories well-defined because the files that Obviously fit in typical categories are pretty rare in the whole files db. Most will mix much more than a single prevalent pattern and therefore be way tougher to categorize, even by just looking at the file and playing it. Re: Terminal Categorization
There is a level of subjectivity that can't be captured by code, but I think for a project like this it would work fine.

For example: Streams category is when xx% of the song is single notes at regular intervals, where xx is optimized subjectively. |

Re: Terminal Categorization
I was only planning on doing 30-70 difficulty since that is all I trust my own opinion on before things become too easy or hard
If you want to do the coding I'm more than happy to shovel off more work on people haha. Really I'm just glad that there has been such interest in it already. I was expecting crickets and jackals tbh

Re: Terminal Categorization
Or you can just have people manually rate a subset of the total set of songs and then use that to train a backpropagation network to rate the rest.

Edit: like I said, Mina has already done all that work anyway so why do it all over again that's a bit counterproductive imo. His difficulty calc is based on patterns, it's like exactly what OP is asking for.. Last edited by xXOpkillerXx; 10-24-2018 at 01:00 PM.. |

Re: Terminal Categorization
Well, have you read the edit to my last post ?
Why do you want to redo it all for and even with less knowledge on the subject ? Your categories are most likely still way too vague to code; you can't just mix and match patterns like that. |

Re: Terminal Categorization
If you want to message Mina to get them in on this that would be great!
And as far as the coding goes I told you already I'm bad at that, and for the original purpose of this thread that's exactly what I had in mind. 5 or so elements that make up ffr as a whole. The fancy names I have in place are not set in stone by any means and are more or less an example of concept. Dont hate me cuz I'm slow :wah:
