Bodies In The House Next Door looks pretty fun, I'll give this a try when I get my computer fixed
Though the bursts are brutal for a 14, lmao |

Re: Songs of the Week (September 15, 2012)
best to worst:
Flux - So fun - you have a great batting average with Nick Perrin, MN. I loved the glissandos made of 12ths! Mascarada - Pretty cool file, really liked the 24th solo! Bodies: I'm guessing/hoping this is part of a larger trend where more and more easy files aren't just 4th and 8th stream but instead have bursts in them to keep the newbies on their toes - this one was nice other than the jump at the end which was cruel hehe Scars - why, it's like an easier Club! With a better song as well. Managed to 4g sightread it somehow which is something I don't usually do with 62+ so difficulty-wise it might be overrated (maybe a 61 fits better). Sex - meh ok the more I play it the less I like it >: Didn't really like the minijacks but other than that it was ok mario: holy fzck what lmao

Bodies In The House Next Door
The chart is fun, but I don't think it should be a 14 simply because it's a short length with long wait periods. Those rolls could be brutal for beginning players. Especially if they're one-handed players. Excessive Sex This felt sort of under rated as well. It doesn't play like any 57 I've seen before. But hey, bring something new to the table. It was fun to play. Has several tricky spots that could make or break any AAA run. EDIT: Oop, it's not a 57 anymore. In Flux (5 Note Piano Prelude) Trills trills trills trills, jump jump jump jump jump, trills trills trills trills. Not bad, the music was catchy, and I LOVED the 12th note rolls. Was taken back by it when I saw it, haha. Fits very well with the flow too. Though I really don't think this should be a 61 at all, it played like it should be a lot higher than a 61. MASCARADA This chart also has some sections that could make or break an AAA run. Pretty fun chart too, mmhmm. Scars Left By Time UUUUUUUUUUUUGH, JAAAAAAAAAAAACKS! I'm biased towards this because jacks are my worst enemies in this game. However, I forgive it because the song choice made me think back to the awesome game called Chrono Cross. Too bad the chart couldn't use the real version, would've been sick. super mario bros theme (original NES is awesome)* The chart started out nice... but then it just slaps you in the face with this jumpy section, then it ends with a slow melodic part that I felt just mocks you. This was my least favorite of the bunch. I'm definitely going to remember this chart and that one section, but not in a good way, haha. Don't get mad plz Yoshl!

Re: Songs of the Week (September 15, 2012)
The idea behind super mario bros is correct but the patterns could have used a little work. Some of the grace notes feel very strange in the "underground" section too.
Still fun though... my 2c It's not as bad as everyone has been implying, but I feel with some tweaks it could have been really awesome.

Bodies In The House Next Door is a horrible file, I'm glad I AAA'd that. Never have to play it again.

Re: Songs of the Week (September 15, 2012)
Bodies In The House Next Door has everything I dislike about most of the new easy files.
-The song has no energy. When I was a new player, I mostly gravitated to the upbeat and energetic songs that were under-stepped (Trip the the Moon, anyone?) because they were simply more fun to play. -The song has no beat. New players learning already have a lot of difficulty with accuracy, and so it's best to have a constant BPM song or at least an easily followed beat so that they can practice timing. -The steps are bursty. Again, new players already have trouble reading and timing. Novice-level stepcharts should allow them to clearly see how their timing is improving and be able to adjust as they play. Bursts and grace notes defeat that entirely. At least it's short haha that's much is good! I will gladly admit it's well stepped technically and even fun for a player like me (despite how easy it is) but I don't feel like this type of file belongs in the game. In summary, PLEASE stop accepting easy ~artfiles~ like this and go back to the basics that properly suit novice players. There's a reason files such as Secret Zombie Room are so popular, even today. EDIT- I know someone is going to make the argument that there needs to be variety in the easy files, which is true. But there can be variety without resorting to color-filled grace note jumbles. A gallop here and there, unique slow jump patterns... take a good look at the beginner and easy official DDR charts. They do a great job of bringing you into the game and helping you perfect your timing and accuracy at the same time.

Re: Songs of the Week (September 15, 2012)
the understepped, upbeat easy file thing is probably just a matter of personal preference. Personally, I gravitated towards the ambient files.

I've discussed this with qqwref a number of times and I just get the feeling we're getting so many ambient/live easy files these days that they're kinda drowning out the simple ones lol

Re: Songs of the Week (September 15, 2012)
Bodies is boring.
Sex is a cool file. Scars is a bit annoying because jacks. MASCARADA is nice, almost like a Sambista [Standard]. Can't play the other two due to not being veteran, so... yeah. All four above were AAA'd pretty quickly.

Seeing how Mostly Dark Universe is now a public chart, I'd honestly appreciate any and all feedback, positive or negative.
'Twas my first chart evar. :3 |
