Subscription
I lost access to my paypal account, and couldn't cancel my subby. I've been charged 3 dollars a month for the past year and a half, and I couldn't figure out how to cancel it without paypal. I want a refund. I don't want additional subby months, but a full refund.

Re: Subscription
Yeah, no chance. If you wanted to cancel your subscription, you could have. There are always ways to get around it.

Re: Subscription
What would that be? I don't have access to the paypal account that was used to set it up, and couldn't possibly access it. There was no contact to be had with synth or any higher-up from FFR. Isn't that thievery?
WHY wouldn't synth stop billing everyone? @scientific : if there's no money, where has my money been being sent to? Someone got it. edit : also, how do I cancel it now? Last edited by dsadsadsa; 10-13-2010 at 02:23 PM.. |

Number one was to contact your financial institution and block Paypal from taking money from your account. Secondly, you could have recovered your paypal account by using their contact information. While I do admit that maybe better steps should have been taken for people who had active subscriptions, you're not going to get your money back now, for a while, or heck, maybe even ever. Also, your money went somewhere, but it didn't go very far because the demand was greater than our supply, if you get what I mean.

Re: Subscription
Same thing happened to me with xbox live. It's really lame that they have it on recursive billing by default and they make it a huge pain in the ass to turn it off or delete your billing information. It is such a horrible scam. Always used prepaid xbox live cards if you are going to use that service.

Re: Subscription
Agreed with Twilight.
Should of called paypal up... the month FFR went down then. It was kind of your own fault. :/ You just kind of let them keep taking those $3 amounts instead of stopping it the first time you saw it. |

Re: Subscription
Speaking of subbies. Are we going to extentions on our subbies?

You know, it's been years and I'm still in awe that people call them subby/subbies.
Seriously, respect yourself. |

Re: Subscription
How about you respect others before telling people to respect themselves. Anyways, I'm serious. Subscriptions. Extentions or no?

Re: Subscription
Why are people still asking about subscriptions? If you had a subscription, the forums will more than likely have record of it. Those who had subscriptions should get extended by however much they had left (or 10 months, if the subscription time exceeds FFR's down time).
EDIT: as far as the OP - it had been stated quite a few times that if you wanted Paypal to stop payment on your subscription, you had to do it manually. While I do agree that you should get a refund on your subscription time for the ten months that FFR was down for, you most definitely shouldn't be refunded for the time that the site was up because you were unsure of how to stop payment - but not in money. You should get a 10 month extension on your subscription only because you were paying for it while the site was down. Regardless of you knowingly doing it or not, you shouldn't get a cash value for it because you didn't take the initiative to get in contact with Paypal/your card company to stop the recurring charges. Re: Subscription
I find it hilarious that while some people are spot on about the fact that it's the OP's own fault for being stupid enough to not contact his bank nor Paypal (namely because many services are recurring and require opt-out -- something you should ALWAYS look for),
it's equally hilarious that people are semi-defending the notion that the money is "lost." It's technically stealing. If you guys *really* wanted your money back, there are ways to do it. Synth is otherwise relying on the inaction of the young and uninformed when it comes to legal recompensation. The monetary values involved on a case-by-case basis are not large. But if *many* people complained and filed? Collectively, the sum total of foregone payments represents a fair chunk of change for Synth that has, effectively, been stolen. Honestly, there's no defending this. Synth, at some point, needs to make this up to his userbase. It's literally stealing money from people who don't know any better.

Re: Subscription
Well, I can't deny the fact that the payments not stopping automatically with the site being down for 10 months is wrong. But, it's just as we said - there's a serious problem if there was no contact with the bank/paypal for a year in a half with this recurring charge. There's faults on both sides.
