And those topics, the spinoffs, in this case would've went from that statement of bush turning into a unicode error to a conversation as to WHY it does that... just stating this is a result of what might have happened.

Re: Let me make something clear.
You would have an argument if I deleted the thread. It's still sitting right there. Anyone who uses the "New Posts" feature who haven't seen it yet will still find it.
It's not like a lock kills a thread. Most threads die because nobody cares after thirty minutes of posting. I just quickened the process. |

Re: Let me make something clear.
The thread was still pointless whether I let it live or not.
I'd rather kill it when it's over. Notice how we lock threads where the answer has already been given to the OP? Same theory applies here. Besides, you said threads. Where are the rest? |

Re: Let me make something clear.
Aye but see you missed my point Squeek. You provided an answer YES, but a very BROAD answer. You mentioned it was due to a unicode error due to a few factors, but it doesn't really go in depth as to why it does that. Now I'm doubtful that kind of conversation would've progressed in that thread but there are those types of threads that do and if you think they are just gonna die and you want to hasten the death of the thread, you might want to reconsider cause it could happen that as you locked a thread, someone was gonna post something very interesting regarding the topic and provide ground for conversation. But since you locked it, you shunned away the conversation at hand and people dislike you as a consequence and you're viewed as an overpowered mod. I KNOW this cause I've experienced this. Whether it was you, Devonin, or some other mod, I have written a good post for a topic that is going on in thread and it was locked by a Mod cause they see it's unfit for discussion while I was typing a reply. You know how annoying that is???

Re: Let me make something clear.
Let it be known that I haven't made a thread about the presidency. I had no need to, because I was for Obama, and I really didn't feel it necessary to argue with somebody who was as sure of McCain as I am of Obama. Too bad they'll have to wait 4 years for another chance, if he McCain doesn't die. He's really, really old, by the way.

Re: Let me make something clear.
Almost every post after the OP ruined the thread and created an almost pointless discussion.
Phynx is kind of right. There's a lot of threads that have potential, and seem insignificant, yet they support discussions. Before you know it, they're locked. Technically, threads should uphold the information contained within through the title, but there's nothing wrong with having a little fun with it as long as it's not off-topic. Though, some threads are just not worth keeping around, and are only useful to raise your post count. Therefore, Squeek is right, too. Everyone is right. >_> Personally, I think the moderators are doing a good job at cleaning up Chit-Chat from all the idiotic, or pointless threads. Just putting my two-cents...

oshi~ Nobody here would delve into the inner workings of Notepad. Hell, how many people here even use Notepad? The answer is on Google. If anyone cares, they can look it up on Google. That's the other primary reason I lock threads--Googleability. If you can easily find the answer to your thread question with Google, I'm going to paste the link to the Google query used to get the answer in order to make you understand that it was so easy to find out on your own rather than waste space here. So, phynx. http://www.google.com/search?&q=notepad+chinese First result: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notepad#Unicode_detection Quote:
That sure was hard. Now unless you can show me a real instance where you think I locked a thread incorrectly, stop making off-topic comments. Last edited by Squeek; 11-11-2008 at 11:26 PM.. |

Tokzic hit the nail on the head.
And Sprite-, I wish someone would make a CT thread about the election. I want to debate it with some people without the thread kissing it's ass goodbye before the start. |

I've changed my political stance. I used to think Dems were dandy and socialism was great. Now I'm a right-leaning libertarian of sorts. That said, I can totally get behind the idea of not allowing politics threads. Most of you kids don't know anything and don't know how to discuss things reasonably. Also, folks like me troll the opposing side, so that's no good. ps people arguing against this are ******s
