Carbo you can still take the 10B.

It's supposedly tests the exact same skills at the same difficulty as the 10A, so all of our advice still applies. Plus you are not yet too late.

It's hard
feel free to prove me wrong though

Also, I only took the AMC 12. I've never taken the 10, so I don't know how hard it is in comparison.

WOW, you have a lot of programs in the system tray there chickendude!

I think I am going to go and take the 10b during my week off of school. Was this years 10A reasonable?

Well I can obviously imagine the 12 being much harder.

I've taken the questions from the 2002 10P which my teacher gave out to our class prior to the 10A and got all except two right out of 25. I did learn to not take older questions as seriously for this math stuff because they always seem to get harder and harder (last year in 8th grade, the practice Math Olympiads, AKA ones from 2001 and 2002, were extremely easy), but based off what I got I'm sure I could do fine.

Also, nice awards, I just have a trophy for 19/25 in elementary school and two pins =(

About 60% of the questions from the AMC10 were also in the AMC12

Of course, problem #23 in the AMC10 was problem #13 in the AMC12, so the 12 is much harder.

I'm only a junior in high school but have already completed calculus, vector calc, differential equations, intro to number theory, and am currently taking linear algebra. However, I just can't do contest math. There's always some annoying little trick in each problem, and I can never find them fast enough.

I answered 15 on the AMC12...but I know I got at least one wrong. Therefore, I'm pretty sure I got a score of exactly 99. Oh well, I'll just have to do better next year.

Aww, that would stink Klarkshroder
Hope for the best

I'm a Junior in Calculus. My school system only recently introduced an accelerated math program (I was in the first year it was implemented) so they wouldn't let me accelerate further. I have a tendency to go out and learn stuff on my own as well.

My school only started doing the AMCs last year. I pestered my teachers a lot last year so they got the AMC 12 only. I ended up taking the AMC12 last year as a sophomore (got a 118, but it was easier then). Got a 3 on the AIME (I messed up the first question rofl)
I'm hoping for something better this year

I also can't believe I took a picture of those awards. That was really ostentatious of me.
What was I thinking
and that system tray keeps growing too

Wtf is an AMC?

Apparently New York doesn't like them, or I've never known of them.

Which makes sense, I'm dead-aweful at math. I'll tell you the entire history of the world in an excellently articulated essay, but ask me to solve some advanced trigonometric functions and I'll quit.

i am in New York (upstate) and we can take it. I think they only offer it to people who are ahead in math though.

Wow, reading all these posts makes me feel like the stupidest thing ever... I'm a junior in high school taking precalculus, and the only calculus I know is how to find a derivative.

I think I did pretty bad on the AMC12. My favorite problem was the mouse and cheese problem, my least favorite problem the cube with the corners cut off. Any tips on that one?

I didn't get to the problems in the 20's. I should have gotten some of the easier ones on the first page, but alas I tend to fall victim to the tricks of math contests, such as distinct numbers... I really need to pay more attention to the directions.

Oh man I hate tricks.

The question on the other page is worded so gayly. It took me like 10 minutes to figure out what they were asking and then like 1 minute to solve it. Reminds me of my bio lab texts, which appears to be purposly speaking in the most confusing language possible to try and sound clever.

I never bothered entering any math competitions around here, and naturally, being in Canada we don't have a AMC 8)

I noticed almost all of the winners were asian, though. Damn their studious demeanour.

The stuff they teach in high school now makes me wish I had made the decision to go to a private school when I had the chance. I was the guinea pig class in high school for most of our accelerated math programs; naturally I missed out on a lot.

10B was a lot easier. Problem 24 took all of 30 seconds to read and solve.

Problem 17 was really easy, but only if you knew the trick. Only one kid in my class knew the trick, but he got it in about 2 minutes. Otherwise, it was hell. Took like 15 minutes to do it the hard way.

I'm pretty sure I qualified with a score of 120 (the minimum XD).
On the 10A I got 114, just one question off.

I bubbled in my answer to problem 3 wrong though ><

I think the AMC12A was easier than the AMC12B. I got a 144 on the A, but only a 129 on the B.

Our school had a snow day on the day of the 10/12A, disappointing seeing as the 12A was so easy compared to the B D: I think I ended up getting ~130.

My friend was really unlucky though; his family already planned to go to Florida during the B since that's our winter break week. I think he managed to take it in a Florida school as guest though haha
