I don't think it's about the learning curve, more about how pretty much all of the people who played the original DotA either switched to LoL (like I did) or HoN, got tired of waiting for something new and quit or just don't want to switch over to DotA 2.

As for completely new players, it's more a matter of how much more visibility League has and how accessible it is where as DotA is more of an underground game with not much marketing going on. It was only a mod for a game (Warcraft 3) to begin with anyways.

agreed on both points. i do think the learning curve can be part of it though. a few people who i have talked to have voiced that (maybe my frame of reference is just biased).

i got much less frustrated learning to play lol than i did dota because i felt so helpless, for example, getting blown up within a 1/2 second in 2 man gank whereas i would be able to stay alive much longer in the same situation in lol.

As far as competitive DotA goes, I just cannot get into it for the life of me. 99% of the games are failed ganks and farming until the super-lategame is reached where everyone has full item builds and two teamfights will decide who wins.

But maybe it's just that I've already seen pretty much all there is to see about DotA back when I played actively and followed the scene quite a bit.

Like in a highlight video where a Traxex got ganked and was just about to die, but noticed a hostile ranged creep next to her, took control of it with Helm of Dominance while a shot was in mid-air and suicided with that one hit from the ranged creep.

And on a side note, I did try DotA 2 but I was forced to drop it because of technical difficulties, as in my Steam crashing every time I tried running the game and it sometimes just didn't start for whatever reason.

That last game was one of the best rounds of dota I've ever seen

Definitely the two best teams, they deserve the $$$$ they raked in. I was basically speechless throughout the final game.

btw navi always plays overly aggressive and borderline suicidal, it seems to throw the other team off. They got really sloppy at some points but when they are on they are fucking ON POINT.
