The Voting Record: A Speed Game For Two Teams
Idea for a game I thought of. Here's a brief pitch:
It's a basic TWG setup. Night, day. 3 wolves, 13 humans. But it's slightly different. Each player has an anonymous codename and PMs the host every vote they make. At the end of the day (which should usually be about 10 minutes, enough time to think about it but conversation isn't necessary), the host posts every player's vote. Then there is the second vote of the day, where players must vote between the two with the most votes. In the event of a tie, there's a coin flip. But this second vote is a way to see how everyone feels about the lesser of two evils. The humans obviously have no way of communicating with each other (in fact, any communication with other players is against the rules.) They do, however, have 3 huge advantages. Upon any player's death, it is immediately revealed whether they were wolf or human. In other words, everyone is a psychic. The wolves do not know who each other are. Each individual wolf sends in their own pick for a kill. If there is a consensus between 2 or 3, that person is killed, otherwise the kill is random between the 3 picks. If one of the 3 kills is another wolf, that person is excluded from the random pick. (Thus, if you're a wolf, and your kill gets killed, you can be sure that person wasn't a wolf. Similarly, if your kill wasn't killed, there's a possibility it was a wolf.) This is, of course, a huge ding for the wolves - they have to work to figure each other out. The humans have a guardian, of course. But they also have a new role: the Sage. The Sage knows at the beginning of the game all the humans and all the wolves. They don't know their real identies, only their anonymous codenames. Since there is no communication, the Sage will have to communicate his intentions as best he can. The game is won in the normal way. The game can also be won by the humans in a special way, if a player makes a successful Testimony. When a player makes a Testimony, he tells the host who he thinks the remaining wolves are. If he is correct, all wolves immediately die and the humans win the game. If he is incorrect, the human who made the testimony dies immediately, and the Testimony made is not revealed. Note that he can be incorrect if he leaves a wolf out or if he lists someone as a wolf who is not a wolf. Since only humans can give a Testimony, a failed Testimony does mean a confirmed human - but also a dead one. This is not a game of diplomacy and deception. This is a game of cold, hard logic and detective work. It could probably be finished in an hour or two assuming all the players were online at the same time. What do you think? |

Sounds very cool.
Are you going to do this or is this just a response thing to see if such a game would be possible? |

If we're not allowed to talk to each other, don't post a list of who is in the game. Rather than a signup thread, make people send a signup PM. If we don't know who is playing, we won't be tempted to talk to anybody about it. We wouldn't even talk to people who weren't in the game for fear that things may accidentally get passed around about it. Well, I wouldn't, at least. But I would love to play this!

I don't like the lesser of two evils bit. Like the time when I played my only bemani game, we had to revote for ld...and someone. I hated it, because I didn't think either of them were wolves. At all. So you're stuck there not wanting to vote for anyone, even though you have to anyway.
Also, what happens if there's a situation close to instalynch, is a second vote really necessary?

Wait a second, what do we do Day 1 if there's no talking? It seems all suspicions in this game would stem from voting habits, and Day 1 there are no voting habits. I'm not sure if this would work, but since it's such a short experiment we could always try and then revamp it to try again, couldn't we?

What's to stop the sage from pming everyone and telling them who the wolves are and to thus force a testimony win in like two seconds?

No communication, remember?
Anyway, this sounds like fun. I'd do it. |

What're they going to do, shut down the pm system?
Signups must be blind--I agree with eb. |

RE: The Voting Record: A Speed Game For Two Teams
I think it sounds fun, I'd be willing to do it - but you'd better clarify that the Sage can't make a Testimony, or that would be disastrous =P
The blind signups idea sounds good, too. But still, if they're posting in this thread, you can be pretty sure they're going to be playing. So, in short.. I dunno. E-E-EDIT: Wait, what the hell, what would blind signups solve? You still have to know who's playing to vote for them. So yeah, the Sage thing presents a problem, plus the whole communication thing. Find a way around that and this game looks like a lot of fun. EDIT2: My God, how could I miss the anonymous codename thing? So blind signups = solve. |

What's to stop a wolf from going around and PMing everyone false information?

I'm skeptical, and far too much trust involved.

This seems interesting. Something that we should try for sure. I would love playing a speed game.

@kilga: nothing... but then you've got at most 4 pms and figuring out who the wolves are is going to be pretty easy from there.
I say just make it a rule that anyone who pms anything to another player is dropped from the game. An honor system, if you like. |

I don't understand how people are supposed to make good votes if there is no
communicating. Or is it only communicating with the anonymous screen name? Other than that part this seems like an pretty fun looking game

I actually think I don't entirely get it... are you saying you're just given a list of numberes, like 1-15 and you say "vote 12" ad nauseum? Am I missing something or is this mildl retarded since youcan't look for voting patterns if the wolves don't even know each other.. EVERY PERSON'S vote would be completely random

RE: The Voting Record: A Speed Game For Two Teams
Yea, I don't like it. Everyone has a codename, so there wouldn't be any pm'ing. No signup list either would mean random votes the whole game through. There is no logic involved, unless we know who voted for who, it's not like we can tie wolves together, no one can defend another. I hope i miseread and when we second vote everyone's vote is posted. Like 12-3, 13-3, 14-. 8-4, 12-3.
