Re: World of Warcraft
Damn, Arthas has a high population. Might try it out, although my latency is bad as it is so I may go for a less-populated realm.

Re: World of Warcraft
Eh, I don't see many people.
Latency isn't too bad at all for me, maybe <100ms and gets up to 225 when traffic is heavy. But meh, i'm looking for a new realm with people on it. :c |

Re: World of Warcraft
Thunderlord is a pretty good server. Alliance Dominates PVE. There are a few guilds who have heroic 25 lich king on farm.
Horde isn't so bad. I know more horde players than I do alliance. The horde seem more chill and fun to play with. Either way, the server's pretty solid on both sides. Plus I'm going to be leveling a shaman (Horde) with a few of my friends so ya'll would have someone to level with. And if you went alliance when you hit 42 i could level with ya'll on my druid. Just a suggestion.

Re: World of Warcraft
Holy **** thank you this is one of the biggest things that urk me. Ever since WotLK WoWs been full of too many morons who think they know everything and judge everything off gear score. I was pulling 3rd highest DPS in a 25-Ony run and I got booted first cause my GS was the lowest. This is why I haven't played in almost a year and I'm just going to get Guild Wars 2 when it comes out next year.

Re: World of Warcraft
I'm not talking about GearScore though obviously, while you can use GS as a filter for inviting people, once they're in, you should be using their actual production to decide if they stay around.
My issue is with HPS being used as a stat that has any actual meaning at all (Because it has none) I had someone tell me that they were clearly a better pally healer than I was because I pulled 7k HPS on Toravon, and when they did it on -their- pally healer, they pulled 7.5k HPS. The sheer ignorance of what that number means and how it is generated is absurd. The ultimate goal for all healers should be as follows: "Generate the LOWEST HPS POSSIBLE without letting anybody die." High HPS is a sign of bad tanks, or stupid DPS, not a great healer. |

Lets ignore the fact that that was ONE example of why I was a decent player. Obviously I don't do 12k hps EVERY fight. That's just an example of what I was capable of doing as a healer.

Re: World of Warcraft
It's an example of you being capable of spamming a big heal on undergeared tanks, or DPS who stand in fire. That's not necessarily speaking to your healing abilities at all.
HPS is not a stat that conveys information about skill. You have a maximum HPS you can generate based on your gear anyway. Take your best Healing:Time spell, spam it 100% of the time, non stop, pop all cooldowns. There, you've got a maximal HPS that has nothing at all to do with skill. You also have to account for how LONG you can maintain that spamming. Some top tier boss fights are well over 6 minutes long, and if your mana runs out, it doesn't matter how much healing you can do in the first X minutes, when the later Y minutes have people dying. Healing is one of the only aspects of the game that -doesn't- have a directly competitive metric of performance. The ideal healing performance is 0% overheals, 0 deaths, and landing directly on 0 mana at the instant the boss dies and damage stops going out. All you can do is try to optimize for those numbers as best you can, but the game design is directly in opposition to that goal. If the fight ends, and nobody is dead, your healers are doing their job. That's all there is to it. Healing is a Threshold matter, not a Degree matter. The better the DPS's DPS the better it is to have them around, full stop. Once a healer gets to where they can get through the whole fight, without anybody dying, or running out of mana, everything past that is complete gravy. "I didn't run out of mana and nobody died" is hit cap for healers. |

You are my new best friend......... <33 hahaha But, in all seriousness he's right. Gear Score nor HPS matter when your looking at recount or whatever. Let's say you have a tank that is 6150 gear score to one that is 5850. IF the 5850 isn't losing life as much and is dodging and parrying more than the 6150 thats going to make the healers job more easier. Lets say you'd do roughly 6k-8k HPS on him. The 6150 guy is losing life much quicker which would take your 12k HPS to probably keep him up compared to someone like the LK. What really matters most is how people can co-exist in teamwork. That's what it is. DPS has to stay out of fires and avoid any damage as much as possible, Tanks have to be defense capped at least 550 and have a good decent amount of life/dodge/parry and the healers need to exercise there rotation for Mana Regen so they don't run outta mana, positioning upon where you are staying so you don't get hit too much either by AoE damage or direct, and you need to watch your aggro ratio compared to the tanks. There is a lot for everyone, and NO ONE person is better than someone else regardless of Gear Score or anything. Everyone is their own person. |

Re: World of Warcraft
Well, defense cap was only 540, and now it's rolled into talents and isn't a stat, but yes the point still stands.

Re: World of Warcraft
Yeah, well i know that before 4.0 the cap was 550 .... that was a standard on any site I went on, but yes you could get away with it being 540 depending on class and stuff.

Re: World of Warcraft
No, it -was- 540 full stop. 540 reduced the chance of being critically hit to 0%.

Re: World of Warcraft
Honestly, I'm just leveling up toons til cata comes out. It's really boring. :/ I mean yeah I can use gear from ICC as such and I can still down the LK for the first time, but I really don't care about having the Kingslayer title... its just a raid that people can easily do with 7/8 people in friggin cata lol
Devonin... I checked up on it and before patch 3.3.3 it was 540 you were right, however it was bumped up due to some crap or what not to 550. I was talking to a friend who is a better DK knowledge than I do and that's what he told me. |
