Not sure about Classic Rock but more genres are needed I guess, since # of genre is getting too low compared to # of songs (single genre should have 10 pages or less, look at the game screen layout).

I know this is why recent new songs are added to Purchased, though.

Only way to get mainstream or heard of bands, is to grow in popularity. Support FFR any way you can, and watch it grow. It's still growing, and the more it grows, the more permissions we can get.

Don't get me wrong, I love local talent, but big bands once in a while would probably get the numbers up a bit more. The solution would be to support FFR and watch it grow.

Btw, seeing Rise Against in the Rock section, along with Wheatus, was the coolest FFR moment in my life.

1. Classic Rock is not a genre; it's a subgenre of Rock. It is NOT its own genre, no matter how you look at it. Like someone else said, we would need a Techno section if this ever came to be.

2. We wouldn't be able to get any Classic Rock. There's no way we would get permission for anything.

3. As much as I love oldies, it would be really boring to play on FFR.

The reason why we're unlikely to get classic rock bands' permissions is that they don't need any more popularity. There's no benefit to them for releasing their music for free here. Hell, some bands won't even give up their music for Rock Band/Guitar Hero where they get paid to do so.

I dislike the genre song choice system altogether, so I'm against expanding it any further.

ok you people have no idea what the copyright laws are do you. when you get a copyright you have 30 years to which you, and only you, have the right to use the thing you copyrighted as you see fit. now once that 30 years is up you need to renew the copyright or else what you had copyrighted can be used by anybody without your permission. now if we apply the copyright laws to this thread you will see that there are some bands that did not renew their copyrights and thus we would be able to use them.

I think it's more than 30, and you have no right to talk to anyone in a demeaning manner, you could have just mentioned it like everyone else.

I don't know about a genre change/addition though, I mean, if we do, what else could we add? Classic Rock is improbable as mentioned before, and Techno, well, much of the Dance1-2 sections fall into the Techno genre. I don't know about anything you else you can add here.

Hm, maybe you're right. We could get some incredibly ****ty bands' permissions (they would have to be really damn bad for nobody to want to renew a copyright)

I'm pretty sure some of Elvis' older recordings are now public domain, but I could be wrong, either way, Elvis dump files.... *drool*

Exactly. There's no point in getting the contracts of bands that haven't had their contracts renewed--they probably aren't good enough anyway. And don't come and say that the current rock music sucks because they allow their music to be on the site royalty-free, because they are rising rock bands who are trying to advertise their music on a popular site.

(I don't care if you weren't going to put that argument, just saying.)

make Dance 3 then alter the songs in dance 1 and 2 so there are the same number of pages in all 3.

thats all we need IMO

And then there is the issue of Tasselfoot's policy. YOU need to ask the artist or label for permission. Tasselfoot won't allow songs to be in the game without the artists consent.

I also don't see the need for a classical rock genre, since rock isnt that overcrowded, and as someone already mentioned, it's really a subgenre.

IMO, there should be a Dance 3 cause Dance 2 is getting kinda overcrowded right now.
Or perhaps a new genre, Jazz. Since alot of songs in misc are jazz songs, and don't really belong in the misc genre IMO.

I'm in the film/movie business myself and you only could play a song completely free 50 years after the artist is dead and that is if no one buys the song.

Yo, norsegod, send me a PM, I have a question, but mine's being glitchy.

P.S. Despite D3, M1, etc., the adept idea thus far is still the sub-genres.

I agree we need a new genre, but only so that we can get some music out of Dance 2. It's so big, that if you try to manually page down, you might go right to 12. That's a little too big.

Yeah, I was thinking more along the lines of making a Dance 3, or something else to move out and sort the dance genres. I mean, yeah we have that drop down list, but if we manually are just looking through songs, it's a little bit more difficult. Though, I guess you could just click on the numbers....but who wants to do that to go down one page at a time lol.

didn't really read much of the replies of this thread.... but, few issues.

a. need permission for any artist in game
b. classic rock would be mainstream music, which means major labels and HUGE named bands. which means permission = basically 0 shot.
c. many of the bands would have dead members or be disbanded, making permission even harder.
d. even if we did go after and get a bunch of classic rock permissions, they'd still fall under the Rock genre... no new genre would be made.

so, the effort and desire is appreciated, but the idea itself isn't all that helpful. locked.
