Yeah my laptop doesn't have a numpad; just a set of arrow keys that are really small, flat, and are surrounded by other keys nearby as well. I need a new USB keyboard anyways (or heck, a new laptop that's not Vista as the OS).

With my old keyboard, my really odd 4-finger playing could produce some decent scores. I remember FCing Border of Maximum fairly cleanly (teens goods? can't remember exact score).

*my positioning were on the arrow keys only: thumb on left, index on down, ring on right, middle finger on up

Hey, if you get a new keyboard then you should try picking up your one-handed style again. If you were getting that kind of a score on that song then you should really try and develop that further - you could really become a star one hander and a potential rival too.

Both of these. It's how I do it.

For simple fast middle trills with NO extra notes surrounding them (unlike La Campanella), I'm learning to quickly turn my hand 180 degrees and slide back and forth sideways really quickly. Moving back and forth sideways is much faster than up and down, though at such quick speeds, I'm still adjusting to find that sweet spot.

I should know - I did that for almost a year and a half starting from when I first began playing in earnest, and when I switched to hitting them with just one finger it was like getting a huge skill boost, especially in jumpstreams with lots of [23] jumps.

Hitting up-down trills is tough on raised keys - try using two fingers to hit them (index for down/middle for up). If you have a flat keyboard then just slide your middle finger up and down - it's what I do and it works on all but the fastest trills.

Hope these pointers are helpful.
Yeah I always hit the [23] jumps with one finger but it's still not easy. I haven't tried hitting up-down trills by sliding my fingers yet. My laptop has flat keys so hoepefully I will be able to perform the trills decently. Thanks for the advice :3

I know this sounds gross, but a tiny bit of oil really helps. Super clean keys tend to be squeaky clean, which is BAD. If your laptop keys are at least slightly greasy or oily, it makes trills flow so much easier and rolls are a joke. Also, trimmed nails are a must, especially for the middle finger.

Bynary, or SK8ter... do you two lay your middle finger flat out on both keys? Or is there another way of positioning the middle finger for {23} jumps? I occasionally find some jumpstreams really awkward with {23} jumps =/

I've been pressing in-between the up/down keys with the tip of my finger to hit both keys twice, although I've only been playing easy songs, so I don't know if that technique would fair well with harder songs. x.x

For up down Jumps yes we Both lay our middle fingers flat. For up down trills i just use my middle finger for both up and down, makes it soo much easier and less awkward.

I've been wondering if that's viable. I suppose it depends on the keyboard, but I can't imagine it being very accurate in fast paced jumpstreams. It'd definitely be something I'd need to put time into to get used to it.

I think you should learn to lay it flat. Though try not to lose your ability to hit both with the tip of your finger. See if it works on higher difficulty songs =D

What SK8R said - use one finger for [23] jumps. It's infinitely superior to hitting them with 2 fingers, especially in jumpstreams. Also, I have no clue how you hit up/down trills with just one finger on that bulky ass keyboard, SK8R lol. I use finger but I slide up and down - on raised keys I'd strongly recommend using two fingers to hit those kinds of trills.

Wow, you need to make new vids man I've been WAY out of the loop lol. It does explain a lot for sure - I was wondering how you would have gotten so good on such a bulky keyboard.
