The Lost Years of Merlin by T.A. Barron
the Eragon series by Christopher Paolini
anything by Robert Jordan
you can't go wrong with an old Tolkien book
Sherrilyn Kenyon wrote some good fantasy novels, with a romance twist
the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice are awesome, although I wouldn't really consider them high fantasy with vampirism being the focal point
Brian Lumley wrote some books that are tied into H.P. Lovecraft's 'cthulhu' universe which although technically science fiction, have a fantasy feel
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court by Mark Twain may be worth your time and provide some comic relief.
Also consider reading Dante's Inferno to brush up on your demonlore.
I also sense that listening to some audio excerpts of the wit and wisdom of Deckard Cain from the Diablo videogame series would help an aspiring bard.

Reading a novel takes up a considerable amount of time. I would recommend just finding an old copy of The Lord of the Rings and focus on it.

Edit: I have taken the liberty of linking some prank calls made using a Deckard Cain soundboard that I found humorous. stay a while and listen

Ultimate Dragon Saga by Graham Edwards. Best three books I've ever read. They are a bit tough to find though. You pretty much have to get them from Amazon.uk to be able to get anything.

But seriously I'd suggest some stuff by Stephen King. He's the king of horror but he dabbles into the fantasy genre a bit too

the dark tower series was good. i recall reading some other fantasy stuff by King too, which were good because they were fantasy novels yet had the nuances of King's macabre brilliance.
