The thing people were actually angry about was that the legislation as written would have allowed American citizens to be detained in a military prison instead of a civil prison. That was changed.

Nothing in this version of the legislation is anything Patriot Act I and II didn't already basically allow, this just spells it out formally. Nothing actually relevant has actually changed.

Me and my friends were talking about this for a long time. Really, nothing has changed. As long as you don't do anything that may involve terrorism, you should be fine. And also basically what Devonin said. Don't worry Americans, nothing is going to happen to you...... unless you're a terrorist.

This is how you keep the status quo and make the people feel satisfied about .... throw an absurd rule in there, make people fight to throw it out, and then everyone feels like they have won.

It's Obama's way of supporting the Patriot Act without looking like he is supporting Bush's legislation, turning all the discussion about the bill to the ridiculous portion they knew would be thrown out and not on the rest of it.

Happens all the time

yeah my thoughts are that the media hyped this shit for no reason other than to divert attention from SOPA being passed (it didn't.) all this NDAA hype started happening when SOPA was being debated over in congress.

either way its all bullshit. this is about as relevant to me as who the leading republican candidate is in the iowa caucuses.
