Of course you Need and...NEED ME [74 or 76]

I'm comparing it to these two other files because they are rated higher and because they exemplify the complexity that most files at this speed and level possess.

Let's start with Reality: it's 1:17 minutes long and is basically jumps and streams. Assuming that most people play spread on these files, both the jumps and streams tend to be well distributed across both hands, with very little sections concentrated on a single hand, which would be troublesome at 258 bpm. The streams are mostly roll-like patterns, too, with no trills or more complex patterns such as running men.

Rarity Attempts 400 Dresses is nearly twice as long as reality (2:33) but its difficulty is centered on a few sections rather than being more evenly distributed across the file. It is not as draining as reality, but has more complex patterns such as rolls followed by short trills. At this speed, the rolls can be very easily jumptrilled, which somewhat negates the extra complexity that would be added by them.

Of Course you Need Me is longer than both (2:48) and is filled with patterns that are heavy on one hand, unlike Reality. It has short trills and even running men in its streams, and the section filled with jumps near the end is longer and more tiring than the similar sections in reality. Overall, the file is far more complex and stamina draining, though, unlike reality, it doesn't have overly long streams, which would make the file a lot harder to PA. It doesn't have rolls like Rarity, but it does have 16th jumps tacked between other jumps, which have a similar effect. It's difficulty is also more evenly distributed than Rarity's and you don't get as much rest between tough patterns.

In the end, I perceive it as being harder than Rarity overall and more draining than Reality, though not as hard to PA. I believe 76 or even 77 would be much more fitting than a mere 74.

the steps arent that difficult at all, yet the bpm is pretty high , but after playing the song a few times in a row you get used to it and easily can FC the song itself, as it comes to AAA-ing , i guess its one of the more difficult AAA's since the song is pretty long, yet repetitive.

But i cant say for sure when it comes to AAA-ing since i havent yet ^^, just guessing.

Finally someone made this thread. I knew that if I would have been to make this one, it would have looked really funny, but I wholeheartedly agree about bumping the rating up. The streams in this song are brutally hard for people who have issues with speed for two reasons: 1.) the song is 240 BPM, and 2.) the patterns are very index-friendly and occasionally lead to one-handed mini-trilling in the midsection of streams. There's also a section of 8th note jumps that isn't quite constant, but is at least filled with 75% jumps, and it's dead in the middle of the song, killing off tons of good scores.

This should definitely be at least a 75 and I too would advocate a 76 rating.

Dunno, I can't get through 3 seconds of the Reality jumps without missing and dropping goods/averages everywhere whereas Need's entire jump section is quite easy for me to play fine. The streams are more trilly/complex than Reality's but shorter/slower so I guess those are comparable. As for Rarity, I consider it harder due to a bunch of tricky transitions between the rolls that are fast and really easy to choke on.

75 or maybe 76 could work, the song is a bit fast I suppose but I wouldn't put it too much higher than that. Being heavy on one hand simply means that it's easy to mirror it on to your dominant hand.

But honestly I know nothing, difficulty ratings feel really awkward to me overall. I find most of the lowtomid-70 songs much more difficult than songs around the ~78-83 range. So as far as I'm concerned most songs could be rated +/-5 of what they currently are and I wouldn't consider it inaccurate >.>

Based on what I've read, I'd agree to this song being at least 75. 76 rating would be more suitable for this song, but 75 is also a fair rating.

for me it just seems to straight forward to be a 76. 75 actually does sound perfect though. The patterns never seemed hard to me, they were just fairly speedy. Not speedy enough to warrant a 76 though, maybe if there were more splittable patterns and what not but it's pretty simple to p.a., you just either have the speed or don't

You all haven't mentioned the intro patterning of the song being extremely biased to one hand and awkward to boot. I agree with bumping it, but anything higher than 76 is a little overkill.

I happened to be really good at the chart and I find it a little easier because I have a huge abundance of speed, but the stamina section of your argument is really what settles it for me. If you can't play 240 bpm jump gluts for a good I think what is it 15+ seconds in a difficult string of patterns, you're kind of screwed.

Kinda rushed atm so I can't make a lengthy post. 240bpm is quite fast and approaching the speed required for several low FGOs (~260bpm), but given how short the pure streaming sections are and how comfortable (in my opinion) the 8th jump chaining sections feel, I'd much prefer 75 to 76. Perhaps I need to replay this file and see if there's a bunch of one-handed sections that ramp up the difficulty past 75, but from what I remember (and I've played the file a fair amount), 75 sounds sufficient.

Obviously if the majority of you disagree, 76 isn't that far of a stretch. 77+ no.

This will make me sound incredibly stupid, but I AAA'd this file shortly after the thread was accepted (I also blackflagged Reality, so take that with a grain of salt). That said, I definitely agree that 77 is too much, now. 76 still seems adequate to me, though, I did find it a lot more tiring than most 75s...

To be honest I think it's fine as a 74. The streams flow well to me even though it has a few small one handed areas in it (I'm not the best at one handed stuff either) and it may be fast but I feel it's much easier to hit than say the streams in Since 1983 which is a 73 in difficulty. What does give me trouble though are the patterns at around 480 combo and 580 combo that go like [12] 32[34] 3 [12][34][12]. For some reason I find it to be a huge boo trap but I don't know why haha (probably just me). It repeats again later in the song towards the end as well. Then you have a break which is nice for preparing for the next half of the song. Nothing hard stands out until you come to the 8th note jump chains which imo flows well but does take some energy to get through (I also think it's SUPER fun to hit haha).

This was actually the first 74 that I had ever AAAed but I wouldn't consider it the easiest of the 74s neither would I consider it the hardest 74. I honestly don't see it fitting with the 75s compared to how much trouble all the 75s give me. I find some of the 73's to be harder than NEED ME like Pitch Black, Into Your Eyes, Since 1983, and a few others. I'd keep it at 74.

Personally speaking I find Of Course much easier than Rarity and Reality, since most of the file plays through my strengths. The jumpgluts are arguably harder than Reality's due to length, this file's more of a (much) easier version of To Make The End Of Battle to me. Aside from the beginning of Of Course, the file isn't really that rigid in terms of one hand bias.

I wouldn't mind seeing this as a 75, this file definitely has the firepower for one, but it's too straight forward to be a 76. I'll make a longer post later, I'm kinda in a rush at the moment.

EDIT: Okay, back home

For a couple of comparisons:
Lightning Strikes Again/Metal Squad (75): Slower and longer, more emphasis on streams, jumpgluts are less dense compared to Of Course You Need Me's. Arguably the same difficulty, I consider them to be equally hard.

Hellhounds On My Trail (75): Rather inconsistent in difficulty. The solo is harder than anything Of Course throws at you, but everything else isn't. The solo is pretty short too, so they're around the same difficulty to me.

Momentary Life (76): A lot of speed demanded, but compared to Of Course, it demands more speed and stamina compared to that.

I think 75 would be the better fit, I think 76 would be pushing it.
