Default I wish there was a way to revive the way this site used to be

But it's probably a lost cause.

Besides the population loss the site is much better now than it used to be.

In some aspects, I suppose.

He/She is probably thinking about things like for example:

When Multiplayer used to be active 24/7...
When Video Chat was active/alive 24/7...
When Widgets existed...
When the SM Database existed...
When there were a lot of active users including more active staff members...
When there were more stuff to do other then just FFR...

I will say though that despite losing a lot of those things in the past, the site now is better then before (Game/Community wise)...just no where close as active and not nearly as much things to do as before.

The only possible way to recover this site entirely would be to open the SIM database again, fix SIU completely, somehow bring an effective new MeTrivia back, support solo files, fix multiplayer and chats, as well as create a new Video Chat.

It's not just about the site itself though - I'd like to have a more active/friendly userbase. I think this can only be done by being more explicitly friendly to the community, controlling the community more (to eliminate the bad elements, not just for the power), and improving the quality and fun of the main game itself.

Maybe if we specifically asked for permissions for files to be available on the sim db, and then only allowed files that fit those permissions?

I suggested this awhile back. I guess we don't have permission to actually distribute the music.

or rather, at all. I haven't seen anything officially new on this site except for a new profile style and the profile badges. I've been here since revival, too.

I don't expect FFR to change, and I don't even care if it doesn't. It would be nice, but I don't see it happening.

If you've been here since site revival, you're definitely neglecting quite a few things.

First off, the Velocity engine wasn't even on FFR when the site came back. Velocity had been working on that during site downtime and we (being the community at Dragons Fury) had access to it for a little while. He was pressured to have another admin look at his work by a few users, and eventually approached someone (this is also the same reason how he ended up as administrator). In addition to the engine being brought to FFR, av-misses got fixed and this engine was used to parse replays. Without Velocity, replays would still have average misses in them.

When the site was back up, there was a ton of work that needed to be done for it to even be functional. Score recording wasn't working, and if I remember correctly, SmartFox Server (which handles Profile Chat and Multiplayer) wasn't working either. After the site was functional, Profile Chat got a nice update that allows people to private message others, in addition to having relevant time stamps, enabled autoscrolling, and a few other things that are slipping my mind. Also, the buzz feature was added.

After plans for Blackwebb got scrapped, R^2 became the next goal in mind to be coded and now a large majority of users have been using the newer (and improved) engine. It performs way better than the old Velocity/Legacy engines for a good majority of people that use it. R^3 is being worked on and has been in beta testing stage for those who have access to the Veteran forum.

A system was added for unrecorded scores, one that is semi-automated and is a large improvement from the old way of doing things.

There's also the anti-cheat that was added in place to the site, which has served for stopping people from obtaining illegitimate scores (it actually caught someone in the official cheating this year). In addition to that, people use the replay images that a few users have access to for chart analysis and visual aids. Spin It Up is also playable, despite how little of a crowd the game has.

Recently, token stats were modified to actually show accuracy just like regular levelranks had.

As far as "new and official things", there's also been two official tournaments since the site has came back, and there's always new content being added to the game weekly.

There's been a fair amount of things, but people are just a little impatient because the changes don't directly affect them.

Not an official engine, still says FFR the Beta, not a real release. It's not quite what I would call official, and is more of an attempt to learn the engine itself before ****ing with it in R^2 and R^3 which, let's get to that in a second.

Cool. Prochat got stuff. I never go on that shit anyway. And repairs to make things work again isn't even complete either

*cough* Video Chat *cough*

This isn't anything near officially new. It's not a release, it's yet another damn beta. Also, because R^3 is being worked on I think it's safe to say that R^2 sucked on a peach pit and died.

cool, an added system to improve on something that should have a total revamp. Anti-cheating is awesome, and I enjoy security additions. For the Replay Images, if only a few people have access to the system allowing you to create it, then it's not an official release, and isn't new at all. It's just beta, unreleased, and yet another privilege for the people to hold over the general community.

Token Stats.. I have never even heard about this until now, so it's obviously not the hottest shit ever, so I have a hard time caring. "New and Official" means there are RELEASES of things, not ANNOUNCEMENTS about things that are being WORKED ON.

Therefore, a system in place to host tournaments and SOTW is no where NEAR new at all. Especially with the fact being that they already were here before the site crashed. Therefore it's just another part of the system waking up again after Synth doomed the site.

So all of the new things we have had are very small in number.

You missed the Replays though, and I do think that was probably the most popular and the best release to date.

My point is that the released stuff is very few and far between and I have a hard time caring about these "beta" things because they aren't even releases, just hobbies at best.

Velocity engine is far from beta now and is publicly usable by anyone that isn't a Veteran (and has been for quite some time), unlike R^2 which has been pretty much deprecated as a newer engine and has been traded off for work on R^3. R^2 would likely be public if Velocity wanted to remove the Veteran authentication, but that's entirely up to hime.

Profile chat did get things, but as you said, you don't visit it. This goes back to my point of it not affecting people. Complaining about VC not being coded won't make it come back, and contrary to what you might think, creating a new VC takes a ton of work. They can't pull the old code from the backend out of the previous Video Chat, otherwise it would have been up and running a long time ago. You (and others like you who are so impatient about the whole VC thing) need to wait rather than being sarcastic about it not being back.

The replay image is an actual release because it is a site function that staff can use to regulate scoring. Just because you can't access it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist, and again, it goes back to the "you don't care because it doesn't affect you" note. Just because you have a hard time caring about things that don't affect you doesn't mean that they don't exist.

Also, people mentioned that there was no new content, but songs being released and becoming playable for the public and viewable by everyone for the first time does by definition mean that it's "new". The official tournaments being playable on a specific date without any old content supplementing it makes it a "new" official tournament.

The only thing I really care about is the amount of activity on the site. We're about 1/4 as active as we were in 2006 - 2008.

There are many things that have changed for the better since then, but I still miss how active the site was.

I'm not saying that people should expect any new things coming out in regard to SIU, but you should expect to see some new things coming out in regard to SIU.

No, it is not far from Beta purely because it is still called "FFR the Beta." True it's like FFRV2, but it's still Beta in my eyes since it really doesn't have that vibe of "I'm all done, ready to go, and there are no bugs alongside me!"

Now you're just assuming things that I never said, and I don't like that. I never said that they could just take the code and butcher it into place. I never said they could do it in a heartbeat or that it's the easiest thing ever.

I purely said

True the staff can use it, but why not the players? I've been dying to see what I have been pressing wrong in the end stream of FREEDOM DiVE for example.

Also, you're still not understanding the concept of new things. I meant things that never had existed, and are a new concept to the site. I can't really tell if you're trolling when you nitpick my paragraph for the one tiny flaw in it and say that the songs themselves are new. SOTW and Tournaments are not a new concept at all. Sure we get badass songs and tokens from them, and it's like 1.5 SOTWs for every round of a tournament, but that is not anything new since they've been in place since before the site went down.

I'm not trying to bash FFR, and I love it here. In fact I love the fact that it came back instead of staying dead like it could have. My original point was even if nothing gets done with FFR I will still love it and be happy with it the way it is.
