Vista 64 and FFR
I turned off Windows Aero, which seemed to help my lag issue slightly (my computer is insanely beastly and so I am a little disappointed. Stepmania 3.9 also lags on my new system, but 3.95 and OpenITG do not). However, there is still a pretty consistent "lurch" to the arrows constantly, and it's really annoying and distracting -- sometimes it will lag for a few seconds and make it impossible to see wtf is going on. Anyone know how to fix this?

Re: Vista 64 and FFR
Have you considered getting 7? Your computer's new, and I'm assuming you have an external so it wouldn't be a major blow.
I was having the same Vista lag, I'm getting none with 7. It even cleared up some weird keyboard program problem I had that made me get random misses on songs that had lots of notes close together. Last edited by NFD; 09-2-2009 at 08:26 PM.. |

Re: Vista 64 and FFR
I have a free upgrade coupon to Windows 7, so I am definitely getting that when it comes out. Otherwise I do not have Win7 for the time being -- just Vista 64. If all else fails I'll just keep using my laptop for FFR, but I like having this huge ass screen to play on (OITG looks beautiful).
But I mean my computer should be beasting this **** -- I figure there's something inherently ****ed in the way Vista is processing Flash or something. I've got 12 GB of highquality OCZ Gold triple channel DDR3 1600 Mhz RAM, a GTX 295 video card, i7 920 processor, 850W PSU, and a 5.9 Windows Experience Score (highest possible).

See, I was having the same problem. I bought this laptop for the majority being it's a gaming laptop. Flash games weren't included in that though obviously.

Re: Vista 64 and FFR
Using XP on this new rig isn't really an option. I'm just holding out for 7 at this point.

Re: Vista 64 and FFR
Vista 64 on my new laptop doesn't seem to lag at all...?
Maybe I'm just not paying enough attention, but I haven't noticed any lag issues. |

Re: Vista 64 and FFR
Ummm..... no? I'm using Windows 7 on my laptop with 4 gigs of RAM and let me tell you, it's not THAT great with FFR. I've AAAd some VC's with it, but that was out of luck.. It is also blowing for Stepmania too, just as bad as Vista did. Overall I'd say XP kills Vista + 7 in the aspect of being able to play FFR / SM. But on the downside XP can't read more than 4 gigs of ram iirc. So? XP only needs 2 gigs of ram to run faster than a Vista computer with 10+ gigs of ram (strictly speaking of flash games, mainly FFR). I've used Vista for 2 years, Windows 7 both the Beta and the RC builds, and have used XP for at least 5 years now.
Let me give you the chart again: Windows XP > Windows 7 > a rock > Windows Vista But hey, that's just the way I see it. Overall Windows 7 is definitely better than Vista, so when you can get 7, I'd go for it. Seeing as how what Who Cares said is pretty much true, it's hard to get XP drivers for a brand new comp, mainly why I'm spending $400+ to buy an XP laptop as opposed to downgrading my Windows 7 laptop in fear of not being able to find the drivers, and **** not working, etc.

Re: Vista 64 and FFR
Yeah, I'm aware of the 64 bit. I was referring to the regular standard Windows XP.

Re: Vista 64 and FFR
I still have no clue why every single person in this forum complains about vista. I've never experienced any trouble with, in gaming, networking, anything.
What type of vista is it? Home? buisness? ultimate? p.s. why the heck do you need 12 gigs of memory? I have 3 and my computer still runs crysis like butter. |
