edit:
I thought about it some more and
...if they have to destroy all the life fibers, what happens to Ryuko? I assume they're going to pull some shit to make sure the hero is safe, but really the logical conclusion is that she would die.

My biggest fear would be that either Ryuuko or Satsuki will sacrifice themselves in the end to save the world from certain destruction. It'd be the most logical I'd think, but that is my biggest fear because I like em both (especially Satsuki)

The thing is that nobody has died yet. Nobody. In Gurren Lagann we had Kamina and Teppelin, as well as almost Nia. I guess the point of doing those things in Gurren was to use the idea of manliness and protecting what is close to you, but it's still pretty weird that nobody has died yet. Not even Nui.

Furthermore, what is Kill la Kill's point? Usually anime try to push some sort of idea or theme, but there's been really no substantial theme besides family, which is really only starting to become relevant in the last few episodes. I can't help but think Trigger dropped the ball.

Though, even 5 minutes of a show can make a difference, and there's about 40 left, so Trigger still has room to pull the threads together.

edit: I made a silly mistake. The only person who has died is Ryuuko's father. :L

You could also argue there's a theme about conforming. There's also some jabs at self image and how you shouldn't let it bother you so much. (Which earnestly I think is kinda awesome the way they did it, assuming it was intentional (I would argue happily that more often than not, it wasn't.))

Also I think the only people who need to die are Nui, the female scientist, and Ragyo. I mean they've pretty much created a world where no one has to die. (Though killing off Mako would have been for the better. She's annoying.)

There's certainly quite a degree of 'staying true to yourself'. The main themesong even says it, "don't lose your way." The problem is that the main characters have all seemingly been unable to find their way in any purposeful way. Ryuuko keeps falling for the same traps/games over again. Satsuki keeps falling into her mother's hands. The only person who hasn't lost their way so far is Ragyo, which is surprising because she's the antagonist numero uno.

The only times they've shown strength is when they bullshit their way out of it. (EG. EP22 where Ryuuko rips out of Junketsu, which is supposed to have been impossible)

The world thing that could happen is Satsuki sacrificing herself to save Ryuko and then Ryuko dies anyway because she is made of life fibers.

Personally, I think the theme smacks you in the face. The outfits. Clothes are the most crazy important things in this universe. In reality, people who think that clothing and image are important are wrong.

According to Nakashima, “it’s a giant time saver. Instead of sitting around trying to figure out what to do, we just see what the people want us to do and go with it. Satsuki wearing Senketsu? Whatever. Mako wearing Senketsu? Why not? Hell, we might even do a whole Idol episode where everyone has a Senketsu outfit. It worked for KyoAni with Kyoukai no Kanata, didn’t it?”
