Yeah, .jpg is a lossy format, but as the plus-side to that, it takes up less space. For the most part, most people don't care about file size.
.png is lossless with a fairly low amount of space taken anyway, and it's also capable of saving transparency.

The graphic is very nice. Did you make it yourself or with brushes? I don't really like the text placement, but that's all opinion.
