Unhappy Nova Pulsar Difficulty

I don't know if it's just me, but I find NP extremely tough compared to even some FMO songs. I understand that it's a high VC, but it feels like a FMO. It's my lowest ranked song. I've only been able to FC this twice, but I had many boos. It's just hard for me to fathom that 600-700+ people have at least FC'd this.

I think it should be bumped up to FMO. Does anyone else find this song too difficult to be just a VC?

Nova Pulsar is definitely VC. If Nova Pulsar is FMO, then Vertex BETA is FMO. You can even add Jelly Roll Blues to this list. But, they're all VCs.

The definition of FMO is getting stricter every month. Better get used to it.

The only "hard" part are the jacks, not really FMO worthy, not even when there were avmisses. Once you get enough skill to PA those jacks you'll get the AAA easily.

it's 180bpm stream and 7 jacks. the stream does have a few awkward patterns... but it's FAR easier than vB, which is much longer, 20 bpm faster, and has 1 handed trills.

as has been said... any issues with difficulties should go in the difficulties thread, but nova is definitely placed correctly. if it wasn't FMO when we had avmisses, it sure isn't being FMO after them.

I just played it 3 times, and each time with less misses. It repeats itself so much that it makes it easy to remember the patterns. Trying to FC now... :P

It's not even the jacks that are the most trouble; it's simply trying to read the parts leading up to the jacks. My mind just seems to go blank and I can't even tell which notes to hit. The pattern seems to disappear and it all starts to look like random notes, if that makes any sense.

I can't even dream about AAA'ing this - that's WAY out of my skill level. I'm simply shooting for a decent FC w/out 40 boos or whatever.

Mental blocks are best resolved by playing a variety of files in you repetoire.

Uhm...stop playing it for a while like a week or so. You probably have mental blocks which prevents you to read parts of the song.

I'd hate to see what you would have done playing this with avmisses.

Nova Pulser has weird 16th patterns that would make an FFR simfile judge scream if it was accepted these days. These patterns are less common now, because people want files that are more index-friendly, pitch relevent, more sensible, and generally more fun overall - the scrambled 16th patterns (also at a high speed in this song) don't constitute these factors for most people.

For other scrambled 16th pattern simfiles, try a song like Uber Rave (original) or Caprice.

That's what I did today. I haven't played this song since I last FC'd it about a month or two ago. I decided to work on my avg rank today and this was at the bottom of the page. I got my 2nd ever FC of this on my 1st try, but I'm still ranked 580 something.

So yeah, you're right. I'll probably give this file another long break before tackling it again. I'm just getting more frustrated with it.

NP is definitely a vc. As for vb..... I have no idea how people can think its a vc. I can get a better score on any fmo then i can on vb. No lie.

VB is the hardest VC imo. But, it's still VC. An FMO can just constitute anything harder than Vertex Beta. Until the FMO range is raised again.

Nova Pulser is awkward, but just relax when you play. So many times people over play songs and go too fast because they can't read notes and they panic. Just take it 4 notes at a time, I do this and I got a 8-0-0-0 SDG on it. Most being on the jacks but yeah. I love the song. It's a VC in my opinion.

Trust me, it was bad. For a long time, my best rank was 1000+ and I couldn't even mash a FC.

I used to have a problem w/ Uber Rave, but I can easily get a decent FC on it now. Same with Caprice. Just something about this song...

For me, Vertex Beta isn't too hard of a file. I guess I'm just weird or something. It's pretty draining, but it's easily readable. Probably can't FC it using spread, but I do pretty well on it 3-finger.

lets put it this way: I can easily SDG Nova Pulser. I can't SDG FMO songs. SDG is a VC. Problem solved.
