How do you usually do on report cards?
I got my midterm report yesterday.
I had English, Geography, Gym, and Business. Business: 88% (I could've pulled like, a 95, if I hadn't bombed a virus test.) English: 69% (One of the highest marks. Everyone else was getting 50's.) Geography: 81% (Really good for me.) Gym: 79% (Okay for me, could have done better). How do you usually do on report cards? |

A's and B's.
Except I keep forgetting to turn in this one rewrite so I have a D in AP English. The rest are A's and one B. |

We don't have any + or - so yea.
English Honors(creative writing and lit and film) = B Other English = B or C Philosophy = B Any form of Math = D or F except when I had geometry I got a B Gym = A. I have gotten a 125 average in gym once as a final grade. Random extras like TV studios = A Anthropology = B Bio = B Chem, Physics = D or F Psychology AP= B or C History Honors= A or B

Regardless of how intelligent I think I am, I'm lazy as hell. I do whatever I need to get by. No more. No less.

Re: How do you usually do on report cards?
In high school I had a 98% average or so (and this was an IB school), which was the all-time school record (wooooo!), 4.0 UW GPA val rank 1/500-something.
In college, ****'s a ****ton harder. I was totally pwning for a while, but now I've gotten a lot lazier, and so my grades are slipping a bit, but it's really not a big deal I think. |

Re: How do you usually do on report cards?
wow lol 14 year olds ftl
A 79% is a C+ unless you have a 79.5% and your teacher is nice enough to round it up to an 80% then it could be a B-. Nice try though. Maybe it is different in Canada, but I don't know why it would be.

Re: How do you usually do on report cards?
lol
For many schools, it's like 70's = C, 80's = B, 90's = A, and sometimes a -/+ system has cutoffs at like *3/*4 and *6/*7 |

Re: How do you usually do on report cards?
When I did GCSEs, the big exams you do here before you leave school at 16, I kinda gave up the last 2 years of school too concerned about social life. But kinda pulled it off with some things. You need C or above to have it classed as a pass.
English Lang: C English Lit: C Maths: G Double Award Science: FF Welsh: PASS R.E: C - I can never worked out how I passed this when I didn't turn up for the exam. Geography: C Business Studies: B Media Studies: C ICT: B |

Re: How do you usually do on report cards?
Just as a heads up for people who seem to not know:
Number grades corresponding to letter grades are COMPLETELY INCONSISTANT across not even just the canada/us divide, but even within states, and school boards. Some schools call 95+ an A, some schools call 90+ an A, some schools call 80+ an A etc etc etc. A given schoolboard especially in the US can basically make the grade system work however the hell they want. This is why the US has many more standardized tests of significance than Canada does. The grading system in each province is internally consistant, and in many cases, the consistancy is across the country. As a result, we don't have any major equivalent to the SATs. The main reason the SATs exist in the US is that a) Your grades mean absolutely nothing out of context and b) You need a way to rank way way more people every year than Canadian universities do. The thing you have to realise is that if you're willing to suggest that the standards are the same, such that "A-level work" is "A-level work" no matter to whom you submit it, then if your 'A' bracket is 95-100% and mine is 80-100%, then something I submit for an 80% here would get me a 95% there, not 'not an A' there. Oh, also. Considering that in Ontario highschools, 'A' starts at 80%, I applied to University with a 94% average, which in many of your systems sounds more like it would be a 98 or 99% |

Re: How do you usually do on report cards?
This thread just went down the toilet.
Anyway, I think every school is different. I always thought people should base how well they are doing in comparison to how their peers are performing, since it reflects how well the teachers are presenting the curriculum and the overall motivation of the student body... If you are getting an A-...but the majority of your class is as well I don't find that impressive. If you have a C average and the majority of the students are failing, then bravo!
