Astral Projection
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astral_projection
I've heard about this for a while, but haven't really looked much into it. From what I understand, it's a form of out of body experience in which you "travel" to a different plane of consciousness. Has anyone ever done anything like this? I don't have any idea how you would begin to go about this. |

Re: Astral Projection
the mind is good at reconstructing memories from a third person perspective especially under conditions of stress/electromagnetic fields/maybe drug-like states? and there have been no double blind tests showing people astral projecting and finding out something they couldn't have known otherwise
in fact pretty much all mind blowing experiences are internally generated and have been produced on cue by the right experiments so remember kids, trip out and thank science for knowing it's safe

Re: Astral Projection
I don't know how similar this is, but when I took an anthropology class, we learned about how shamans would take psychoactive drugs in order to go into an ecstasy and draw stuff while they were under hallucination.
So...drugs? |

Re: Astral Projection
Aite, looks like this was a bad thread because 1) I can't use drugs and 2) I'm dumb so someone delete.

Re: Astral Projection
Now now gentlemen, let us be tolerant. Just because a belief seems crazy to you doesn't mean that it's right to shoot it down.
As a person who goes to a Unitarian Universalist church, I'm around pagans all the time. I hear about it constantly. Never done it much myself, but I'm told it's essentially meditation gone bat****. |

Re: Astral Projection
Just think of yourself in another place and FWOOSH there you are.
With range limitations, of course, and obviously limited interactivity. Provided you succeed, too. However because it's so ExIsTeNtIaL the closest you're likely ever going to get is when you're asleep, but then you're just dreaming, so... Seriously this **** would be ****ing awesome. |

Re: Astral Projection
I don't believe it. Any kind of consciousness that you can have is due to the direct association of the physical senses to brain. Any kind of distorted reality is due to messing with your sensory input and brain. Nothing physical is ever leaving your body so it is never an "out of body" experience. Nothing non physical is leaving your body either because there is no such thing as non physical...

Re: Astral Projection
have fun being tied to a false reality materialized by the need you have as a person to shelter yourself from true integrated consciousness. The linking of the subconscious whole of the universe and your own specified conscious is a precious experience, and using your ties as a single part, a tiny body, a cell of the flesh of true reality, you can tap into the fabric of existence

Re: Astral Projection
Does anyone else think that things like this are just made up so death isn't as devastating of a thought compared to if you believe in no afterlife? lmao

Re: Astral Projection
I think a great number of people do. In my opinion this idea can easily have been the origin of religion.
