We need a way to streamline patches directly to people without them having to do anything.

I'm really glad to hear that people are enjoying the files I submitted. I'll be sure to post some reviews of my own (if my fingers will forgive me... there's just so much to get through D: ).

EDIT: I love how you guys kept my background for Song That Might Play When You Fight Sans. That might be the least effort I've ever put into a background in my life :P

Haha dude Commodore and Sunahara plains were awesome, even if I do feel they will be a bit polarizing for some (I have a soft spot for 16th note jumpstreams at that BPM, and the music). Your Undertale submissions were amazing as well (Also, nicely done x-mod tricks overall!). Seeing your happy-hoppy looking CD-Title to the music for Commodore makes me hype as well, lol. It could be your theme song. Looking forward to seeing more from you in the future!

Of course! Your files are very good!

Least effort, but fit the game it's from. We kept Song That Might Play When You Fight Sans and Your Best Nightmare for that exact reason.

~~My totally relevant and well put together reviews (pt 2)~~

Three levels I used:
-Amazing; I'd go back to this pack just to play it.
-Decent; if I'm stumbling through the pack I may play it occasionally.
-Unimpressed; likely would just skip right past it.

Please do note that unimpressed doesn't mean it's bad, it just means I don't like the file relative to other ones in the pack, and I also have very niche tastes. Also if you're in the mood for noting still, please also note that if a file was on the fringe of decent and amazing, I'd always round down, likewise with unimpressed and decent. Gotta conserve those high ratings bruh!

Casino Area
Interesting file, in that the difficulty isn't about notes per second or high bpm or jacking in one direction etc, but from the patterns and the timing. I like it.
Amazing.

Chelnov Theme
I felt there was a lot more that could be done, eg with the drum lines etc. File itself was simple, I just think compared to the other files so far this one is just... lacking somewhat.
Unimpressed.

City
Oni fit the song really well. It's difficult but it's a doable difficult for me, so I'm patting myself on the back. It's actually a cool file. The heavy file was obviously much easier with fewer jacking elements and such, but was still a very fun file. You somehow made me like a file with a lot of jacks and jumps, nice.
Amazing.

Coeur de Ceramique
It's a fun file, really really well made. My gripe itself is with the song itself, due to how it is, the difficulty is annoying in that it starts out so slow and easy, then there's nothing, then there's something then nothing etc. Makes going for MA a pain etc. A+++ stepping, poor song choice for my tastes.
Decent.

Collision Chaos
I love files like this, where there's 24th patterns and it's more about timing and such rather than pure speed. Nice for getting in the habit of accuracy and such rather than just trying to hit high rate JS files. Fun file.
Amazing.

Colress Battle
I'm torn on this one. On one hand, it's a jacking file. On the other, it's kind of fun anyways. It's well put together, but as I said for an earlier file, not my cup of tea. Alas,
Decent.

Commodore
Had generic jumpstream components, and really wasn't a lot special about it. It's a good file, I'm not underwhelmed or overwhelmed, I'm just kind of whelmed right now.
Decent.

Cooking with Zess T.
Cute as fuck file dude, fun and quirky and synced really well. Not much else to say, play this.
Amazing.

Crescent Island Boss Theme
Here's a jumpstream file. Oni is more dense etc. I didn't really like either the oni or heavy; not the biggest fan of most JS files.
Unimpressed.

Cursed Destiny
More jacking Interesting file though, but jacks + holds are no bueno for me. Music good though, and I can see where the appeal would be for this file, but it's not there for me.
Unimpressed.

Dancing Leaves
I know I mentioned earlier liking 24th patterns, but this one just seems off. The patterns just dont click with the music in my mind.
Unimpressed.

Dark Demon's Song
I did like this song at it's base, the charting fits etc, but the patterns got a bit repetitive. I think I just don't like jacking files though. The holdstreams were fun though.
Unimpressed.

Dark World
One of my favourites of the pack so far. Jacks compimented and weren't overused, the patterns were fun, the quick streams weren't just a giant fuck you. Nice.
Amazing.

Donkey Kong Country Theme
Another easier file I'd recommend to any newer players. This chart is beautiful, with how well it's patterned and synced I hardly even have to think about the notes and timings and I can still get them all just fine.
Amazing.

Dr. Wily Stage 1
The oni was fun, short, simple, sweet, with fun patterns. Nothing amazing but I can't think of any complaints with this one either. Heavy was a lot of fun too, similar in nature.
Amazing.

Dragon Slayer
Oni was holdstreams galooooooore, I don't have the finger coordination for that kind of thing to truly enjoy it. Same deal with heavy chart.
Unimpressed.

Escape of the Infidels
;__;

Factory Stage
Whew, this was fun. rolls, jacks, etc, all in a fun way. One of the easiest 12's in the pack, but still loved it (after all since when do I mind easier files???).
Amazing.

Fantastic Theatre
Another fun one. It's a bursty-ish file but the patterns are fun to hit. The holdstreams are a nice touch too. I guess the theatre is quite fantastic, ha haha h-ha right guys...!
Amazing.

Fiercist Train
Going with the theme of puns from the title, this song was really fierce in that my fingers hurt. Good stamina file, it's actually pretty fun. Just not the kind of thing I love.
Decent.

Fighting of the Spirit
File with holdstream sections, and quick streamy sections. Not my thing really, but I think there's going to be many who like this one.
Unimpressed.

Final Battle! Rival
Eh, mostly just a streamy file. It's not bad though, nothing incredible though.
Decent.

Final Boss
Oni chart was jacky, so bias incoming. At least it had some variety though. Heavy chart was kind of boring, a lot of anchors and slow trilling.
Unimpressed.

Fire Volcano
First time playing through the file, I couldn't even hear the background music so I was confused as to why the patterns were there. After fixing my audio it does fit, but the patterns were still shaped like a middle finger in my mind. I just didn't enjoy this one.
Unimpressed.

First And Last
Firsly, this song is epic. Secondly, I wish I had this song when I was first learning stepmania. Overall, pretty good, recommend to newer players.
Decent.

Flight of the Battery
The issue I have with this file is that it starts out with those long-ish jacks, then it evolves into simple light jumpstream, then it goes to holdstream with annoying anchors. Didn't like this one much.
Unimpressed.

Frontier Brain
Quick streams, a bit dumpy, but it's well dumped anyways in those sections. Nice for lower end speed training.
Decent.

Fullmetal Fighter
There's a jumpstream section, there's a jumpstream with jacks section, and there's a 24th stream section. Three things I don't like, but I'm probably alone on that one. I recommend this file but I didn't like it.
Unimpressed.

Gamma Quadrant
Oni file is hand jacks n shit with holds thrown in, it kind of hurt my self esteem. Beginner file was much of the same, but more emphasis on holdstream rather than all the hands. Didn't really play the others, sorry. Not the biggest fan of this one.
Unimpressed.

Gaze Out Over The Sea
I got serious vibes of The a la Menthe from this file. A lot of fun, nice quick bursty patterns etc.
Amazing.

Gear Getaway
Fun file with 24th patterns and such, non-obnoxious hold stream segments. It's nice, nothing special but sweet and simple.
Decent.

Gerudo Valley
The patterns are fun and intuitive, and it's well synced with the file. Nice MA testing here, as it has a bunch of different patterning elements.
Decent.

Get Jinxed
Another addition to the list of files I wish I had when I was learning stepmania. Good stuff for new players, with basic streams, jumpstream and jacks.
Decent.

Go Forth! Great Fox
I remember this file from Super Revival Pack 2015! It's actually pretty fun of a file, the jacks are annoying though (I really do sound like a broken record eh), I feel like trills would've worked better almost but hey that's a style thing. Solid file through and through.
Decent.

Go! Go! Novice Alchemist
I don't like holdstream ;__; But, credit is due anyways for the first ~15 seconds or so being top tier.
Unimpressed.

God's Garden
I was playing through the oni file, thinking "wow this chart isn't so bad, I still have my FC going, why is it rated a 17?"... Then about 3/4 of the way through those long 190bpm jacks come in and ruin my day. That aside, it's a fun file till then and the heavy is still good.
Decent.

Celirra,

Just to make sure, are you playing Flight of the Battery on x-mod? It was entirely intended to be played exclusively in that way, otherwise it is a rather basic file. Same goes for .Execute. I'd recommend either 3x or 4x depending on your reading speed capabilities. You're missing out on an interesting experience if you're using C-Mod.

X-Mod Files:
.Execute
Flight of the Battery
Luigi's Mansion
Your Worst Nightmare

I'll post this in the thread for clarification, as I got a PM regarding this.

I re-upload packs when they are updated and I am notified. This can be done as many times as needed, though due to the packs popularity and size I'd prefer not to do it a ton of times (due to interfering with user downloads). I also plan to modify the directory structure of the pack when I re-upload for user convenience as well.

Release a patch and I'll get this squared away. Preferably with the patched content only, and not on MediaFire (try MEGA or Dropbox, it's much better).

This is technically not the file's fault. The entire length of that person's directory system is factored into this limit (e.g. C:\\users\user\really large folder name\another large folder name\a.txt might be too long). You could shrink the name of the file if you'd like, but the file isn't inherently broken upon extracting on a normal system.

Just a heads up guys, if you're having trouble with the Mediafire download, it's because of the CAPTCHA function (I was having a problem with this in Firefox). If you try it in Google Chrome it should work fine. Just complete the Captcha to prove you're not a Robobot and wala you did you've got the pack, winnar.

Edit:

PSA - PLEASE READ
I am noticing many players have the following changes made to their Stepmania which is severely dampening the experience we had intended for those who are playing through this pack for the first time.

Let's get things squared away: This is not you're normal/usual Stepmania pack. This is not going to be your usual 'ey a new pack let's play it' type of experience.

1. Have your backgrounds turned on, or at least at 30-50% brightness. YOU ARE DOING YOURSELF A MAJOR DISSERVICE BY NOT DOING SO. TRUST ME ON THIS ONE. Enjoy the pack first, WORRY ABOUT SCORES LATER. This is not your standard stepmania pack!

2. Certain files are intended to be played on X-Mod, and you will achieve the BEST experience playing Stepmania 5. .Execute for example uses features only available on SM5.

The following files are intended to be played STRICTLY on X-Mod for MAXIMUM enjoyment.
- .3X3CU73
- Flight of the Battery
- Luigi's Mansion
- Work Harder
- Your Worst Nightmare

3. Turn mines on. Nearly every file in this pack that uses mines has been done so in a thoughtful way. There are even some files who's difficulty is ENTIRELY dependent on there being mines for the challenge. Not to mention, you will miss easter eggs and surprised planted within the pack.

You will be doing yourself a major disservice if you don't follow the above. I know it's niche or considered taboo to try to tell players how to play Stepmania, but seriously think of it like this...

Think of the VGMP 4 as a whole standalone game. For your first playthrough, please:
1. Turn those BG's on.
2. Enable those mines!
3. Use X-Mods for files that have BPM changes!
4. Enjoy the pack first, worry about scores later!

If you follow the above, I promise you...You will enjoy the pack much more and actually see some serious surprises that will blow your mind and change the way you view Stepmania and the VGMP 4 as a game.

Exclamation Re: The Video Game Mega Pack 4 (RELEASED!)

Guys,

This is actually important enough for us to stress. It's important enough that we'll include this as a ReadMe doc when we release the next patch. I know it's niche/taboo to request this of Stepmania players but this is not your average "Wewt I have 40+ new filez to play" kind of pack that gets released all the time. Think of it like a new game, or an expansion to SM... Focus on having fun and enjoy the VGMP4 experience first, then worry about scoring on the files you really really like later. If you can't find yourself doing that, then sorry, you're doing a disservice to yourself and the 3 1/2 years of effort all the collaborators and judges put into developing this pack.

Heads up for people trying to resolve the issue with that one really long name that has issues transferring over directly: You can just extract the folder itself out to the desktop screen after the entire pack finishes with the extraction and then transfer the file into the VGMP4 folder. That's how I was able to get around that issue

I'm glad mines were well utilized in this pack, but I'm definitely going to turn them off still because I dislike them on principal. I play this game for the enjoyment I get out of tapping to the rhythms, not dodging to the rhythms. But I do get the appeal for sure
