Trigun:

It's a shockingly good series, and the movie is pretty good to boot

So netflixs 4k will have about the bitrate as I would expect out of a 1080p video and 1080p videos have the birate of quality 720p video. So I guess this new 4k streaming is basically the announcement of 1080p quality support. Although it will still be worse than a higher bitrate 1080p file without upscaling it.

Watch House of Cards season 2, I think that's the only thing in 4K they have introduced at the moment. The bit rate is brand new to the service as of like, last month

I don't have netflix and I haven't even seen house of cards season 1. I'd probably just wait for blurays rips though. I'd imagine the 4k stream looks alright on a 1080p screen though. Kind of interesting that they decided to go with H265 encoding. Slightly smaller fize sizes for a drastic increase in decoding processing power. An older computer would probably kill itself trying to play a 4k H265 video.

Most people who can afford a 4k TV probably also spend their time worrying about more urgent things than the infinitesimal difference between HQ 1080p and UltraHD for the purposes of cel-shaded animation.

I only care about differences the human eye can pick up without a microscope. You people o_O

Yea, I'm also pretty sure newer 4k tv's can actually decode H265 without a modern computer to begin with. But it still kind of kills the possible backward compatibility with not even that old smart tv's that are 1080p. Most new smart TV's have netflix apps, but if they aren't new enough then they won't be able to handle the new encoding. Alternatively you could connect your computer to a TV and watch netflix from that onto the TV.

At this point you are just getting more and more inconvenienced in comparison to just downloading it and watching it in the same way.

You should meet my dad then. I guess he has the mentality that if he is going to spend a metric fuck ton on a 65" 4k tv then it better be god damn amazing.

Also quality loss on anime is actually more noticible than on live footage. The nonsmooth lines in live video is too obscured by all the detail, but in anime where everything is large block of solid colors and clean outlines it is really obvious. At least to me on a large tv from about 10 feet away.

Yeah actually, now that you bring this up, it's true. But at the level we're talking about, it would still be splitting hairs, and then splitting those splits.

Probably, I'm sure the vast majority don't care. Just personal preference and since the content is available to me I am going to opt for that.

I can't tell much of anything when it's running at 720/1080 on the iPad, so no jimmies are ruffled in my case

Finished Madoka Magica

It wasn't a bad series by any means, the concept was fairly original, but it felt way rushed at the very end. The characters were fairly boring, and the twist that happens 3/4ths of the way through felt pretty forced.

It's was still prettying odd, but I don't see what the "drop everything and see now" hype was all about. I was expecting it to be a 24 episode series, especially since there was a great chance for a second half of the story with the ending.

Ouran HS Host Club Probably not. Depends on if you can get over how gay it is
KenIchi Yeah
Sekirei S2 Absolutely not

D Gray Man Yup
Chrome Shelled Regios never heard of it
Dance in the Vampire Bund ditto
Blood+ Probably
Chaos;Head we do not speak of it.
Moon Phase haven't heard of
Tenchi Muyo GXP Probably. Original series is better
Spice and Wolf (never finished, got halfway through it) might bore you
Blade of the Phantom Master dunno
Squid Girl Come for the loli stay for the bad jokes.
Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 I don't know what this is

Nothing wrong with shounen stuff, action is always a nice touch.

Glad you enjoyed it

Right before the last two episodes of Madoka is when Japan got hit by that tsunami. The show was put on hold for a few weeks so I'm not surprised if they were scrambling and the end. They remade the thing into movies which I have no yet seen, but I have to imagine that they took their time with it.

madoka movies are awesome. if you wanna see the updated art and recap the story then watch the first two, otherwise don't bother but definitely watch the third if you've seen the series or first two movies.

i would recommend watching the first two just because i thought it had more impact than the series (although i tend to forget stuff i watch really easily so the recap was also nice)

Bubblegum Crisis 2040 is an older but classic anime that's fairly well known. I haven't seen it, but it's supposed to be good.

I watched the first five episodes of Cardcaptor Yutaka Madoka last night, and although I don't think it belongs in the same untouchable company as stuff like Clannad, Eva, Steins Gate (presumably) and so on... I definitely like it more than Snowcrafta and Artic.

My gut wants to call it at least a 9.0. I feel like I'm enjoying it a little bit less than Bakemonogatari, but I still feel like it would be super-elite to most people.

Even before seeing it, I've recommended it to a handful of people just based on the style and what I've heard about it, so I was already excited going in, and it turned out to be just about as good as I expected. The characters could use a bit more definition, if I'm going to complain about anything.

I'd watch an entire show just about Madoka's mother though.

Five episodes into Madoka and loving the shit out of it

Definitely didn't expect a character to
get brutally murdered seconds after making an emotional breakthrough,
this is clearly not the show I thought I signed on for.

There was a saying back during the downtime after this tsusami that if you don't like magical girl anime than madoka is the perfect show for you because
they all die and the main girl never even becomes a magical girl.
