Need HDMI sound help
Well since a lot of you are pretty smart let me try to get help for this.
I have me the panasonic Viera television and my computer of course. So when I hook up the tv to the computer via HDMI the sound plays through the TV and not the speakers through the computer which is essentially what i want to do. A lot of people had tried to tell me simple solutions, but it hasn't been working. I am using windows XP by the way.

Re: Need HDMI sound help
In your audio settings you should just be able to select your speakers instead of the TV, no?

Re: Need HDMI sound help
I have this same problem with my Vizio VX240M. I've tried everything under the sun and the sound won't work with my desktop. It works with my 5-year-old laptop for some reason though.

Re: Need HDMI sound help
I only know the normal way of doing it which is going to Control Panel -> Sound -> Double-click the desired playback device.
Right now it's set to TV. For XP, it should be Control Panel -> Switch to Classic View (Top left) -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Audio tab -> Default device (Sound Playback) If you've already tried this, then I have no idea what's wrong. Last edited by Evnoir; 10-17-2011 at 08:37 AM.. |

Re: Need HDMI sound help
I got the sound to play from my laptop once by accident. I think the HDMI cable wasn't properly inserted.
Give it a shot lmao. |

quick googling brought me this, I think it could help you. Been too long since XP for me to remember. Try changing the default playback device, like Evnoir suggested. http://www.tinyeye.com/avsetup/soundsetup_xp.html#2

Re: Need HDMI sound help
Well see in windows 7 it will notice the television as a sound playback device. In my xp version it only notices the integrated sound card the realtek HD audio in this case

Re: Need HDMI sound help
If you have SP3 for XP, do you have KB888111 installed?
Also, have you check the advanced controls in the volume control? Not much else I can think of, especially knowing that there's audio on the TV side and not vice versa. This means that the audio device is either switching off the laptop audio device and only making audio go through to the TV, or the audio is being completely bypassed straight to the TV; although, I could be totally off. Maybe check the device manager while you connect the hdmi cable? If all else fails, dual boot Windows 7 on there. Last edited by Evnoir; 10-17-2011 at 05:32 PM.. |

So there's my 3 audio inputs. First one's for a usb gaming headset, the second one is for an old pair of stereo pc speakers, and I have no idea what the third one is but I set that one to default, turned the audio all the way up, and hit a random song on YouTube, nothing came out of my TV's speakers. Here's the back of my TV: Yes, I've tried putting the HDMI cable into "HDMI 2" and then using a y-splitter cable to plug one end into the green headphone jack in my computer and the other into the L/R audio next to HDMI 2. That didn't work. And here's the back of my desktop computer: Unplugging the cable for my stereo speakers does not make the TV speakers work.

Re: Need HDMI sound help
If your television has some sort of line-in, you could go the alternate route and use a separate audio cable.
