Fuck. This is really sad.

At the very least, I hope this helps bring mental health back into the spotlight on a bigger stage. It pisses me off that our country still stigmatizes things like depression, etc. People act like mental illness is just something you will yourself out of, when in reality it requires a lot of work and support. Given some of the darker aspects of Robin's past, I can't say this surprises me at all -- but it's so sad when you wonder if this could have been avoided if only our society weren't so retarded over this stuff.

one of the posters suggested that a mod edited the thread title, which is rather plausible

Some of the first posts though suggest otherwise, unless those were edited too -- is there a wayback for Friday at all or something?

To state the obvious, it was likely just coincidence -- apparently Robin Williams went to rehab last June (a couple months ago) so it's not necessarily out of the blue.

It'd be like if I said, "Are people prepared to accept that Betty White and Stan Lee are going to die soon?"

Definitely one of the most humble and generous celebrities I've seen in recent years. He'll be missed.

Very sad news. He was in some of my favorite childhood movies.

Also, Westboro Baptist Church is already planning to picket..

They picket any mainstream deaths these days.

They must be hipsters.

I was perma banned from celiac.com for suggesting that someone should look into having depression and a couple of the mods took great offense to it, told me I shouldn't have said anything, I responded something that mental illness isn't a horrible, it should be looked at etc etc. Then things escalated. Was rich, as one of those mods pm'd me how a fairly active user on the site who was her friend had recently committed suicide. She didn't at all see how this was relevant and important to why I would dare suggest such a thing to a user, she just used it as a 'don't fuck with me' thing to say she was in no mood.
Perceptions of yesteryear.

this - so very much; being able to see him take a very serious and somewhat abrasive character was great, and he did awesome with it.

I merged my thread which was a single post for the same thing with DotKritic's, who created it first -- we both created it at the exact same minute. It was just to prevent redundancy and keep the conversation fixed to one thread, rather than scattering it to two threads.
