C:\Program Files\StepMania\Data

Open "Stepmania.ini" and find GlobalOffsetSeconds. Adjust it to your liking. Keep in mind it adjusts everything, so if you step files, you'll step with this offset (meaning you'll need to constantly go back and forth).

Another way: from the main menu, go into "Edit/Sync Songs", open the song(s) you want to change the offset of, and use F11 / F12 to adjust it. Make sure to save.

Lastly, you can do it in game after you've started the level. Before the arrows start coming, use F11 / F12 right there. You can save the changes or discard them when you're done.

I believe F12 makes them come later.

not true. when creating a new file stepmania automatically adjusts the file so the global offset doesnt affect the sync when played by other people

editing an exsisting file is a different story all together. if you plan on editing someone elses .sm then once you're done editing you have to get rid of your global offset that stepmania added to the exsisting offset of the .sm

Actually, SM doesn't compensate for other offsets, that's the whole reason why global offsets exist. This problem with files being on-sync with some machines and off-sync in others usually presents itself within ITG--which is why there are two separate offsets. Adjusting the machine offset allows you to deal with a constant group of offsync files, while adjusting the regular offset just fixes one file.

EDIT: SM takes the global offset, but doesn't fully compensate for the starting beat of the first song, that's what I was trying to say. You may still have to adjust even if you have a properly set global. (Sorry, Carlos. ^^)
