Re: OoT
It's like you suck at making a point or something. Suikoden is incomparable exactly because its emphasis is on 2D. The few 3D backgrounds they use are simple as all hell and I don't know what you consider "better presented" about it. They might as well have gone with pre-rendered backgrounds while they were at it, cause it's not dynamic at all unlike the games I linked screenshots of.

Your point? That doesn't make the games worse visually or gameplay wise. Quote:
Both ps1 and n64 had native resolutions that small you insufferable thundercunt.

I don't need to restate my points for people who just can't read. I already talked about why my Suikoden point was somewhat of a cheap-shot. Or are you someone who is obsessed with obvious points? edit: FF7 was made before OOT, and featured way cleaner looking GFX that focused on 3D with very little 2D support. Would you look at how clean these textures are??? Oh man Xenogears you and your fully 3D environments <3 damn PS1 you used Sprites as textures and it didn't look like shit! That just leaves everything else you said that doesn't make sense (e.g. ps1 is just better i ignore proof, your monkey argument, better hardware).

Re: OoT
Just pointing it out here, but Pseudo is 18 years old. He was barely even alive when OoT came out, so he is likely vastly overestimating what was feasible back then. Advanced real-time rendering technologies really blew up during the 2000's, but were still in heavy development prior to that. Remember that Wolfenstein 3D and Doom (which came out in the early 90's) were considered insane at the time of release.
Or Beyond the Mind's Eye from 1993 (I watched the shit out of this as a kid), which was a showcase of some advanced graphics tech at the time: |

Re: OoT
Spoiler cause the images make the post really big
You're basically cherry picking examples at this point and taking incomparable examples (pre-rendered environments/3D + pixel art hybrids etc vs real-time rendering) while also ignoring impressive factors such as the fact that mario kart 64 is the 7th released game on the n64 (released in 1996) and it's 8 fucking mb in size while gran turismo is a whopping 320 mb. Beyond the Mind's Eye was is amazing haha. I loved watching it.

Re: OoT
donkey kong 64 was a much larger game than crash bandicoot
mario kart came out in 97 and was in development for 2 years; gt came out in 98 and was in development for 5 but let's be honest, a mildly autistic teenager could make a better rpg than quest64 in fucen rpg maker |

My Jaguar is better than your 3DO
...My parents actually did own a 3DO once upon a time. The only good games I remember playing constantly on that beauty was Gex and the first Need for Speed. |

Re: OoT
Mario kart came out in 1996 yo
Also one more thing about donkey kong 64 and crash bandicoot is that donkey kong is just a little less than 27 mb in size while crash bandicoot is 439 mb

Re: OoT
I think music + pre-rendered cutscenes are the bulk in many of those Playstation Games.
It's still really impressive though to see that Donkey Kong 64 was almost 100x smaller than the average PC game at the time. ...Reminds me of Sonic CD for the Sega CD. The main game size is probably not even no more than 1-2MB big. Everything else though is what takes up the space to make the game 300MB or so. |

Re: OoT
IIRC DK64 came with that RAM expansion pack, but only because it was the only way to prevent a game-breaking glitch

Re: OoT
Screenshots don't show differences in frame rates, animation smoothness, or camera panning smoothness and quickness. The Playstation had a lot of tricks it could use to make individual frames look incredible, but trust me when I say the N64 had a maniacally snappy 3d rendering engine for its time and price. The N64's strength was real time 3d animation. The Playstation's strength was having space for amazing textures and pre-rendered BGs and videos.
Personally that one creeps me out a bit, heh. This is more my speed, even if it's not technically Zelda:
