Default Video Card fun

Hi guys! I need a new video card. It needs to be PCI, and under $150 canadian.

Just give me the best options for my money, I'm not looking for anything fancy and I don't have the money for anything expensive.

Argh

Ok people, if you don't know anything about technology, don't post technology recommendations. Seriously.

Ok, evil, I'm going to need to know a couple things. The specs of your computer, whether you meant "PCI" or "PCI-E" and if you meant the former, whether or not you have an AGP slot, and how much $150 Canadian translates to in USD.

Well, $150 Canadian is like $120 or so USD.

The solution is definitely to get more money. =/

My computer has an ASUS K8N Motherboard, 6 PCI slots and one AGP 8x/4x slot. AMD 2800 64-bit Processor, 1024mb of PC3200 RAM at 400mHz frequency. Sound is onboard, RealTek AC97. Anything else you need to know? =p

Boo ya. For $120, you can probably find a Radeon 9800 Pro, which is about the best you'll find for that price. You'll get pretty decent performance with that.

I love the 9800, bought it on sale for $75. It works great for a 128mb card. I am looking into buying ram at the moment. PC-2100 266 DDR DIMM. A bit old I know, but I just want to add on to what I have, looking for either another 256 or 512.

Get 512. Doom 3 runs like a dream with that much.

Which X800, pray tell? Because even a vanilla X800 is around $200, unless you mean the X800GT, which is actually a midrange card and shouldn't even be marketed as an X800. Furthermore, I love you how refer to it as "fast enough", seeing as the X800 series is only the second or third fastest card series on the market.

I'll say it again. DON'T POST TECH ADVICE IF YOU DONT' KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT.

Don't like Doom, but, I do need more space. 512 sells for $65 in stores, probably going to pick it up.

ROFL What are you talking about?

R9800pro is way slower compared to RX800/GF6600GT/6800, which is around $140-$170 range (yea including RX800GT).

old-highend like RX800pro/GF6800GT are still over $200 though.

He was finding a card that was $120. I don't see where it says that he say's one is faster then another.
