Default X-box 360

For you noobs at life the X-box was officially announced a few days ago. "Powered by a custom-made IBM PowerPC-based three-core chip running at 3.2 GHz, and supported by 512MB of GDDR3 RAM" Multicore processors haven’t even been released for computers yet and they are somehow planning to sell it under $300.

What it looks like: http://www.xbox360.com/home.html?lan...charType=latin

More info:
www.Xbox.com

http://www.pcworld.com/resource/arti...RSS,RSS,00.asp

Oh and the PS3 is going to be announced in a few days, the 18th, which is going to be even better; boasting cell technology, for the cpu ,with possibly 6+ cpu cores.

Default RE: X-box 360

All these new consoles...I know I'm not gonna get any of them for a while. But, to comment:

The wireless controller thing kinda turns me off. I haven't used wireless controllers in a long friggin time. Last ones I've ever seen and used in person were line-of-sight, which made me hate the idea of wireless controllers. These new ones work with radio signals, don't they? That's not so bad. And the idea of batteries running out scared me a bit until I read more, about how you can charge them while you play. And I'm glad they finally got a good design. I think this proves that Sony had the best controllers all along. Although, these new X-Box controllers are damn snazzy looking.

And I don't know about all that technical junk, but from the sounds of it these next gen consoles are gonna be insane. I think this insanity in the consoles stems from the insanity of the developers. Especially Nintendo has been really weird about how they refer to their consoles, with weird symbology and whatnot. The "circle of light" on the front of the 360 and whatnot that I read about....they're being kinda ridiculous. Crazy nerds.

For some reason, I get the impression the X-Box 360 is going to be extremely loud. Each core chip has its own fan (according to the LA Times).

Just for the record, multi-core CPU's for the PC have been out for awhile.

Ooo...going against the man. Ballzy.

Just for sh*ts and giggles, here are the rejected prototypes,

http://www.hellogamer.com/2005/05/13...60-prototypes/

Suddenly, the chosen design doesnt seem half bad compared to those god-awful designs.

p.s. Check out the video, it's pretty rad.

I have to say, I am most likely not going to buy one solely on the fact that I absolutely hate the font they chose. I would hate to have that font staring me in the face while I play games and whatnot. Poor move on Microsoft's part.

Source?

Edit:
Please, I just got A+ certified :P

I checked a few different popular online stores anyway, and they didn't have anything, and spent a minute in google:

http://hardware.gamespot.com/Story-ST-x-1570-x-x-x
"All of today's desktop processors are single-core, which means each processor only has a single processing core"

http://www.intel.com/pressroom/archi...050207corp.htm
"SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 7, 2005 – Intel Corporation today announced it has completed initial production runs of dual-core processors and provided further details about its multi-core plans to its customers, signaling the beginning of an era when PCs will have two or more “brains” inside"

http://www.findarticles.com/p/articl.../ai_ziff127188 (mid page) "In 2005, the first multicore processors will be shipped. By 2006..."

http://www.amd.com/gb-uk/0,,3715_11787,00.html
"AMD will release the first dual-core products for servers and workstations in mid-2005 , followed by dual-core processors for the client markets beginning in the second half of 2005."

Hmm...We are discussing the single consoles, notice how we aren't talking about which ones we are getting. Don't bump this if you aren't going to contribute to some sort of specifications on the console itself.

http://www.joystiq.com/entry/1234000900045546/

If you look at the Xbox (original) logo (the text, not the symbol), it can almost be written vertically and horizontally, (save for the 'B')...if I were on the Mircosoft design team, I would have tried coming up with a logo that could do just that. Sure, it'd be alittle abstract, but, in the Xbox360's case, there are going to be people who are going to want to have it sit vertically, and others who want it to sit horizonatly.

What I am trying to say is, I am disappointed in the lack of innovation and originallity in the Microsoft design team.

Im not.. I like it. I hated that leaked picture of it, but now seeing the system forreal it looks great. If that big macintosh power button pivotted when you rotated it between horizontal and vertical that would be bad ass. But, whatever. It's good how it is.

Btw, anyone got it preordered yet?.. I do.

Myself, I cannot wait for the release of this sucker. Literally. I want it now.

All of the features sound spectacular. I mean, wireless controllers that not only connect to the console itself without any other hardware, but don't lose any functionality from the original controller, and whose charge you barely have to worry about? Sign me up.

Then there's the fact that XBox Live is going to stay exactly as it is, which means the only transition we XBox users have to go through is switching the Ethernet cable. That rocks so much.

And the games. Have you seen?! Elder Scrolls IV! Just that is going to make the console worth it, forget PGR3, another NFS game, Perfect Dark Zero, etc., all of which look breathtakingly good.

I officially forgive Microsoft for jumping the next-generation gun and releasing this system only four years after its predecessor. But these next three months are going to last a very long time.
