Re: Scariest PC Games? Recommend me some and why
I can't remember a time when a movie or video game has scared me. Maybe a pop up that makes me jump a little but that's it. I'm tempted to buy Amnesia right now, because it's half off on steam. Is it that good/scary? What makes it so scary?

Amnesia isn't even scary wtf you guys on. Doom 3 and Silent Hill 4 are the only games that have scared me at least a bit.

Doom 3 isn't even that scary, but there are certainly a few moments in that game that made me literally jump up in my seat

To be honest, there really aren't any scary games for the PC. It's all expected to pop up, and it has no shock value.
As in: Amnesia. Not scary at all. :\ I've been watching the TobyGames LP of it, and everything you can expect to happen does.

Re: Scariest PC Games? Recommend me some and why
Doom 3 is only scary in the sense of cheap scares through popping **** up in front of you suddenly. Amnesia is a far more elegant, atmospheric kind of scary, but I have turned several corners to find myself face to face with an enemy with a lower lip reaching his chest and freaking the **** out.
By the way, watching an LP doesn't really convey the same oh god i'm going to die sense that actually playing does. You immerse yourself deeper and subsequently every scare is intensified.

The game isn't scary. Amnesia just isn't.
Saying it is scary is like saying that Black Ops or Modern Warfare 2 isn't overrated. And, yes, I have played "The Dark Descent" with the lights off. And, I wasn't phased. |

Re: Scariest PC Games? Recommend me some and why
Well, your just assuming that everyone doesn't get as easily scared as you do. If everyone didn't find Amnesia scary, then there wouldn't be a big market for it. So your making a false statement about Amnesia not being scary, because it is for some people.

So far Amnesia hasn't been scary. Just occasionally disturbing/unsettling, perhaps.
I want something that will make me piss myself. |

I see four options here
1. I'm a wuss 2. The people who say it isn't scary are being internet tough guys 3. The people who say it isn't scary are genuinely hard to scare people 4. All of the above

Re: Scariest PC Games? Recommend me some and why
Well, I have money to blow from Christmas, so I just bought Amnesia. It's downloading right now. It's at 30%. I don't expect to **** myself, but I at least want to be unsettled or jump a bit once. I looked at the steam forums for the game, and everyone is saying not to doubt it and how good of an experience it is, but some of you are saying it isn't scary. I have yet to watch ANY gameplay of this game on youtube, so the game is completely unspoiled and I don't know what to expect.

I went into it with no expectations... so far it's an interesting game, but just not scary. I found Penumbra to be the most disturbing game I've ever played (especially Black Plague -- hell, the beginning of the game puts you in an unknown, dark room in the chambers of the Elevated Caste and you can hear someone getting stabbed to death in the next room). FEAR had a few scary moments, but mostly shock value.

Yeah, there are a few moments in the latter... third or so that are really, really disconcerting/scary (talking about Penumbra: BP) -- unless you refer to Amnesia, in which case -- awesome! I am not super-far into the game yet and hope that it gets darker.

Re: Scariest PC Games? Recommend me some and why
I think it mostly depends on how much the game immerse you into it. Black Plague was indeed great at that but so was Amnesia, so I don't really see what's lacking in Amnesia for you Rubix. But hey, it's very likely that you just didn't click into it xD It happens a lot no matter who it is.

Re: Scariest PC Games? Recommend me some and why
I *just* got past the part with the... water. LOL. Got my adrenaline going a bit. :P Needing to turn that wheel JUST above the water... ahhhhhhhh hurryhurryhurry
Now I'm in this fairly quaint castley chamber thing with an elevator that doesn't work. Fffffuuuu. I've encountered maybe two other enemies so far in the game, but one of them was easy to avoid, and the other seemingly disappeared from the map after I avoided it the first time. No idea where it went, nor do I want to know. Last edited by Reincarnate; 01-2-2011 at 01:08 AM.. |

My friend has made me play through many "scary games" countless times, and I've played through pretty much every game listed so far in this thread. The reason why I don't get scared is because my mind knows it's just a videogame. The only relevance of me being scared is just a little jump from pop outs, but as someone mentioned it earlier, in scary games almost every thing that's gonna happen is pretty much predictable. "Walks down a long dark hallway" HMM I WONDER WHATS GONNA HAPPEN?! Yeah, Marcus, I don't think there is a game that's gonna make you piss your pants.

Re: Scariest PC Games? Recommend me some and why
First enemy I ever saw was a zombie walking around a corner away from me just when I entered a room. I quickly ducked behind some boxes and waited for about ~10 seconds. I then proceeded to creep around the corner to investigate when I came to the exact quoted conclusion.

Re: Scariest PC Games? Recommend me some and why
The ravenholm chapter on halflife 2 was pretty tense, if you have nice headphones/speakers the ambience is pretty unnerving. And if you play the zombie screams backwards they say **** like "oh god help me" or "god is dead".
And I've been trying amnesia, not very far into it but I like it already. very trippy gameplay. I'm glad I'm not jaded enough to be unphased by it yet, |
